Tammy Faye: Building on The Rock

Apr. 5, 2007

Continuing with our Holy Week celebration:
A few tracks from this classic from (Jim &) Tammy & their friends...
...The Devil Is A Sly Old Fox
...We're Marching, Marching
...The Devil's After Me

and my personal favorite...
...Isn't It Grand To Be A Christian

I was going to post this whole album, but! I believe that Tammy Faye is actually offering this album as a reissue on her website. (Go there) As you may know, Tammy's been sick for some time, but she'd rather you pray for others than for her right now. Still, we send a salute and blow a kiss her way. Thanks for this, Tammy!

Holy Week for Sister Ellen

Apr. 3, 2007

What a way to kick off our Holy week celebration!

44 (!) Benedictine nuns singing on the Ed Sullivan show! This same episode had the Stones singing Ruby Tuesday (and something else- I'd have to check). I guess they needed a little family oriented balance. This is actually an amazing chunk of 60s TV.

¡Kids! Download this as a Quicktime movie you can keep on your own computer...

Mrs. Miller Revisited

Mar. 30, 2007

There are people in some circles of our lives who know not Mrs. Miller. For these colleauges and loved ones, a little introduction. For you old hat-sayers, there are a few snips from the above record further down

Kicking off with the top 40 hit (yes- we really did hear it regularly on the transistor radio during those WKNR Think Summer days)...

...Downtown (from Mrs. Miller's Greatest Hits)

The "Will Success Spoil Mrs. Miller?" LP brings us...

...Monday Monday

From "The Country Soul of Mrs. Miller...

...A Little Bitty Tear

"Mrs. Miller Does Her Thing" singing about the...

...The Renaissance of Smut

The 7 inch pictured above is a radio promo record. It has an open-end interview so that you, the DJ, could interview Mrs. Miller in your own studio. I wish this record was in better shape, it's one of those vexing bits o' vinyl that looks clean, but doesn't play as such. I've tried a number of things, if anyone out there has some expert (as in beyond the basics) technique to share with me, I'll clean it up and upload the rest. For now here's a few "play-the-record-now" snips...

...1, 2, 3, 4, and, an interview snip

Oh Baby

Mar. 25, 2007

This infant Horned toad demonstrates that, yes, generally most babies are cute

Baby songs today, becaue I made a mix (well, 2- because there's always 2-much good music) for a little baby shower event which transpired this day. So here are a few tracks:

No, it's not an accidental multi-track blend- just some wacky production on...

...Cher- Dream Baby

Four Jacks and A Jill...

...No Other Baby

An excerpt is all that's needed of this worst songs of all time candidate. Maybe I never made it through the whole song before- a serious listen brings us to this deeply moving final verse...

...about Havin' my baby

I suppose "Daddy" in our next excerpt would be horrified that they'd even think it...

...a bit of christian sex ed (thanks to Dinosaur Gardens)

Rufus and Chaka do justice to a brilliant Stevie Wonder track...

...Maybe Your Baby

But the most amazing for last- Frances Faye...

...Shortnin' Bread

...the answer here to a true life mystery water leakage story.

Kids! Visit Mr. Leaky (above) and his friends Phil Dumpster and Bert The Salmon here, and then ferry your rotten water-wasting parents over to play...

...Mr Leaky's Water Saving Adventure Game Be warned! Connect The Leaky Pipes is TOO challenging!

The song of the day must be Irma Glenn...

......Everyday is Earth Day (from now on) (mp3)
