BlogNow Meet and Greet Day!
Ever wonder what the face looks like? Who is behind the nickname? Whether the funny, witty personality, whose blog you read daily, actually looks like Comic Book Guy or Angelina Jolie?
Are you interested enough to find out?
Here at BlogNow we've rediscovered the meaning of the word community. We are intelligent, funny, supportive and talented people and we share these qualities willingly with each other.
Let's have a BlogNow meet and greet day and share them in person. Sydney is the initial choice of venue as a lot of bloggers seem to hail from there and the BlogNow headquarters call it home, as much as an e-community can have a physical home. Don't let the fact that you are not from Sydney put you off, however, as people will be coming in from interstate especially.
The date is March 17 and there will be two separate events. The first one will be family and friends oriented and will be held in Sydney Olympic Park as a big BYO picnic and barbeque.
Then, for those that want to to take it further, there will be an evening event, more drinks and grownup themed. More details to follow.
To facilitate the planning of these events we need some indication of numbers. We want to see anybody and everybody there for what promises to be a great day.
If you are at all interested, please let us know by contacting event director Kitty Walker - http://www.blognow.com.au/profiles/kittyrex/ (kittyrex2006[AT]gmail.com) so that the planning can be fine tuned.
Best Regards, BlogNow Team

Recently, several Blognow users reported abuse from a fellow member who posted a number of offensive comments on their blogs. While the whole idea of blogging is based upon freedom of expression it is vital to filter and deal with abusive users. Currently, BlogNow doesn't have a set of well-defined rules or procedures to deal with such cases. We would like to ask you, the BlogNow Community, to come forward with solution proposals. How do we manage abusive comments without becoming a subjective censor? When does freedom of expression become abusive behavior? Thank you, BlogNow Team

Dear Bloggers, We would like to finally close the chapter of our battle against Telstra for the WhitePage.com.au domain. Telstra has won the case and as much as it saddens us we have to let go of the pursuit to get it back and concentrate on new developments and service improvements. We have completely moved all our blog hosting services to the new domain BlogNow.com.au and from now on it will be the only operational domain. Thank you all for your support throughout this ordeal. If you have friends linking to your old blog URLs such as www.whitepage.com.au/yourblogname please ask them to change the links to www.blognow.com.au/yourblogname. Once again thank you for your support. Regards, AAA Marketing World

WhitePage.com.au Case Update. We Are Winning!Dear WhitePagers, First and foremost the team at AAA Marketing World would like to thank all WhitePage.com.au supporters. As per WIPO order on Wednesday 1st of November WhitePage.com.au has been transferred to Telstra, which has later that day shut down our blog hosting service. The number of your letters sent to Telstra Corporation Limited and media representatives has resulted in WhitePage.com.au being restored on our servers on Thursday 2nd of November. While this is an amazing achievement for the WhitePage community the battle is NOT over yet. Telstra has not been in contact with us and has not confirmed in any form its position nor did it agree to the continued operation of the blog hosting service under WhitePage.com.au domain name. We suspect that due to the HUGE AMOUNT OF PUBLIC OUTRAGE Telstra have restored Whitepage.com.au! As it presently stands Telstra STILL HAVE THE POWER to shut the service down again at any time. AAA Marketing World need confirmation from Telstra in writing that they will NOT SHUT WHITEPAGE DOWN! We have seen that public outrage gets results, so we further need your help to save our online community and show Telstra that we can’t be shut down! We now seek contact with Telstra in order to agree on a resolution that will ensure both continued operation of WhitePage service and protection of White Pages trade mark. HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN DOYour help is needed now more then ever. Please continue to spread the word on this injustice and please continue to contact media and Telstra representatives. Demand Telstra to confirm continued operation of WhitePage.com.au as free blog hosting service. We believe Telstra’s executive still do not understand the importance of WhitePage.com.au to survival of our blogging community. Registration and setup of blognow.com.au was done to allow a form access to your personal blog data – it doesn’t transfer all references links from other web sites and thousands of personal bookmarks already pointing to your blogs hosted under WhitePage.com.au! Together we can all beat Telstra and save our community! Write to Telstra today: We thank you again for your support and are honored to provide with blogging system and technical support. Best Regards, AAA Marketing World WhitePage.com.au

Urgent Announcement WhitePage.com.au to be shut down forever. Dear WhitePagers, Telstra Corporation Limited has ordered the shutdown of Whitepage.com.au
Over the last 12 months WhitePage.com.au has grown to host over 10,000 personal blogs visited by over 12,000 users per day. It’s with bitter disappointment that we announce to you the news of the recent WIPO (world governing body that determines the ownership of domain names) order to transfer WhitePage.com.au to Telstra Corporation Limited. On the 5th of October Dr. Michael J. Spence of WIPO (http://www.wipo.int/amc/en/domains/panel/profiles/spence-michaelj.pdf) has decided in favor of Telstra Corporation Limited in the dispute over the domain name WhitePage.com.au. Specifically Dr. Spence found that - WhitePage.com.au is confusingly similar to whitepageS.com.au and breaches White Pages trademark owned by Telstra Corporation Limited.
- That AAA Marketing World (the current owner and people behind WhitePage.com.au) had NO LEGITIMATE BUSINESS interest in the WhitePage.com.au domain name.
- That AAA Marketing World has registered this domain name in BAD FAITH and in offering you free blogging service was ridding off the famous White Pages brand name.
Full text of this decision can be found at: http://www.wipo.int/amc/en/domains/decisions/html/2006/dau2006-0008.html Needless to say that we strongly deny all of the above accusations. We do not believe that Telstra Corporation Limited has exclusive right to the two generic and descriptive words “White” and “Page” and subsequently the domain name WhitePage.com.au that was available to the public at the time of us registering it. We invested our personal time and funds to cover advertising and employment costs associated with this project. We have good reputation in the field of Internet marketing, helping create and develop such famous brands as HotelClub.com, RatesToGo.com, ProductReview.com.au and many more. We have not acted in bad faith by developing WhitePage.com.au service. Shortly after the WIPO decision was announced AAA Marketing World has contacted Telstra Corporation Limited calling to their common sense and requesting a meeting in order to discuss the many possible technical and legal resolutions to this situation. We aimed to ensure uninterrupted operation of your blogs while delivering complete protection to Telstra Corporation Limited trade marks. In our letter we have explained the intent of WhitePage.com.au and provided the numbers of free personal pages hosted at this domain name as well as the damage the transfer of WhitePage.com.au will cause to what now is Australia’s largest free online blogging site. The Legal Counsel for Sensis Pty Ltd Mr. Bruno Macri has responded on the 26th of October 2006. Below is the extract from Telstra’s response. “We acknowledge the intent and purpose of your ‘blog’ web site and stress that we are not concerned with the nature of your business, or web site content. Telstra’s only interest and concern is with the name, (and in particular the URL) in which your ‘blog’ web site is associated. We believe that Telstra’s concerns in this matter have been made clear to you throughout the course of correspondence and Telstra believes that the decision of the WIPO Panellist is correct. We do not accept that an obligation to transfer the domain name to Telstra will produce a number of complaints and negative media coverage towards Telstra, as there is no causal connection between registration of the domain name by you, and Telstra. Accordingly, we recommend that you seek to register an alternative domain name for your ‘blog’ web site and seek legal advice to ensure that such name is unlikely to infringe third party rights prior to it being used. We then recommend that you contact your users and provide them with your new domain name address”. We now expect that WhitePage.com.au domain name may stop functioning as early as Wednesday the 1st of November. Our last hope in saving WhitePage.com.au is to raise media and public support in hope to penetrate the bureaucratic ignorance of Telstra’s executives. Here’s what you can do to help: - Write or Call Telstra Corporation Limited
Sol Trujillo - Chief Executive Officer sol.trujillo@team.telstra.com Bruce J Akhurst - Group Managing Director - Telstra Media Services and CEO Sensis Pty Ltd Bruce.J.Akhurst@team.telstra.com Phil Burgess - Group Managing Director - Public Policy & Communications Phil.Burgess@team.telstra.com David Moffatt - Group Managing Director - Telstra Consumer Marketing & Channels David.Moffatt@team.telstra.com Bruno Macri - Legal Counsel bruno.macri@sensis.com.au Andrew Maiden - Telstra News Services andrew.maiden@team.telstra.com Let them know how disappointed you are in Telstra and their ignorance. - VERY IMPORTANT.
Write to any local and national media representatives: local and national newspapers, every current affairs website you can find. Let them know about this injustice. Please include: Today Tonight http://www.seven.com.au/todaytonight/contact_suggest Craig McPherson & Neil Mooney cmcpherson@seven.com.au nmooney@seven.com.au A Current Affair http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/feedback/default.aspx?formid=228 David Hurley dhurley@nine.com.au Sunrise http://www.seven.com.au/sunrise/form_contactus Today Show Mike Dalton mdalton@nine.com.au Write to Dr. Michael J. Spence and WIPO – let them know how you feel about the unjust decision they have made by letting one of the richest corporations destroy Australia’s largest free online blogging community.
Do not be silent - please help save your free online blogging community. What about my blog? Your blogs and all the related data can now be accessed via the newly registered www.blognow.com.au. All your “log in” details remain unchanged. In gaining the domain name Telstra Corporation Limited will not get access to any of your blogs or personal data registered with WhitePage.com.au. We will continue to provide free blogging service via www.blognow.com.au regardless of the outcome of this dispute. The support e-mail address is now also changed to support@blognow.com.au – please address all correspondence related to this matter or the support of your blogs to this address. We thank you for your continued support. Best Regards, AAA Marketing World WhitePage.com.au

Hello Whitepagers. Some of you may have noticed the website's slow performance and loading time the past few weeks. This is due to the growing number of people using Whitepage. Please be informed that we have been working to improve the website's loading time and performance, the reason for the site being offline just recently. Track backs have also been disabled temporarily mostly due to spammers (Don't you just hate them?). However, we will enable it again some time this week. Rest assured, you will be notified beforehand next time the site undergoes maintenance.

Hello WhitePagers, We have noticed (from our support emails) some of you have or had trouble loging in and decided to write a FAQ on how to overcome this problem. First thing is pretty basic, make sure your username and password are correct (our login system is case sensitive for both username and password, check your Caps lock) Still no luck? Ok, you will need to clear your browser's cookies (sometimes a cookie problem occurs that can stop the login to work for security reasons). Here a step by step on how to clear cookies for Internet Explorer: note: that deleting cookies will log you out from any site you have logged into previously 1. At the top menu of Internet Explorer click on Tools > Internet Options 2. Under the "Temporary Interent files" section click on Delete Cookies... 3. Lastly click on Ok and re-enter your login details.

We at WhitePage love blogs however we do understand that blogging can sometimes be too time consuming with no financial rewards thus leading to people abandoning them (which brings pain to all of us at WhitePage). So in this little post we are going to explain how to make your blog somewhat profitable. It wouldn't make you enough to quit your day job but a cheque for $200 every month is still nice. The overall idea is simple, the more people visiting your blog the more chances of visitors clicking on your ads. The idea behind getting more visitors is pretty simple as well (in theory): interesting posts, consistency and freshness (updating your blog regularly).
Which ads to place and how
So lets start, you can earn money by placing Google Adsense on your blogs. Google displays non-intrusive ads or links to websites that are related to the content of your blog.

For every click on a Google Ad you will receive some cash (fraudulent clicks will get you banned from the program very fast however). Google sums up the money until it reaches a certain amount and sends it to you by cheque (can be sent in Australian dollars).
Signing up with Google Adsense
First up, you'll have to register with Google Adsense to start your money-blogging career. Click on the image bellow to start.
Complete and submit your application, and check for an email from Google to verify your account. Once you are verified, you'll be able to log into your AdSense account and get started.
Generating your ad code
Once inside your adsense account, you can start generating your add code code to add to your blog. First, click the AdSense Setup tab. From this page, you'll be guided to choose the type of ads you'd like to use and customize them.
1. Ad Format: the ad format is the shape of your ads. There are a number of formats to choose from, ranging from single ad blocks to skyscrapers and banners. All of the available formats are displayed on the Ad Formats page - check them out. Once you've decided on a format that will suit your pages, select it from the drop-down menu.
2. Color Palettes: Color palettes allow you to customize the look of the ads on your page by selecting colors for the background and text elements. You can create up to 200 custom color palettes by following the steps below: * From the drop-down list, select a pre-existing color palette to start with * Select the Border radio button, then click the corresponding color to generate a color table and assign a border color. The preview ad will update to show your current selection. * Repeat for each element of the ad - background, title, text, and URL. * Once you've designed a color palette to your liking, click Save as new palette to store this palette for later use.
Tip: You can select up to 4 color palettes by holding down the Control key (for Windows users) or Command key (for Macintosh users) while you select palettes. This will make you ads look different (based on those 4 color palettes) everytime the page is loaded.
Pasting your code to your blog
Now that you've generated your ad code, it's time to add it to your blog. You'll see your code in the AdSense Code box. This is the code that you will cut-and-paste directly into your blog template or blog entry. You can place up to three ad units to your blog by adding multiple instances of the ad code. There are 2 places where you can add these codes to your blog. Through the template, or inside your entries.
Editing your Template
To edit your template, login to your WhitePage account then click on your Blog's Settings. Click on Template from the menu above.
Here comes the fun part, you will be taken to an HTML editor. Yup! HTML, I'm sure you've heard of it. It's what's behind a website. Your internet browser reads it and translates it into the normal webpage that you see (with all the pictures and the fonts and the colors, amazing isn't it?).
Now look for the tag in your template. Anything that is displayed in your web browser is inside the BODY tag, that is, inside and . So you will need to paste your ad code inside it (this might require some playing around, the preview template feature becomes very useful).
a. If you want your Google ads to be at the top of your blog, place your code right after .
b. If you want to place it at the bottom of your blog, place your code just before , which should be near the bottom of your HTML editor.
c. You can place it on both the top and the bottom of your blog, since Google allows you to display upto 3 ads on a single page.
d. You may center your ads by placing a at the beginning of your ad code and a at the end of your ad code. Save your template and off you go.
Placing your ads inside your entries
You may also place your code inside your blog entries to make your ads more visible, hence, more effective. You will still need some HTML editing to do this, but this is much much easier than editing your template. Here's how to do it.
Create a new entry or edit an existing entry (visit the FAQ page for instructions on how to do this), while on the edit entry page, tick on the HTML checkbox, it's at the top of the editor, just beside the "Font" box. You will then see the HTML code of your entry (again a bunch of jibberish). You may now paste the code at the top, to place the ads at the beginning of your entry, at the bottom, to place it at the end, or in between paragraphs (you'll see a at the end of each paragraph). Now a little bit of add code tweaking (don't worry nothing major): In your add code find "" (before ) and remove it as well. Once you are done, save and publish your entry.
Make sure that you don't exceed the 3 ads per page limit Google has placed or they might not send you your cheque. What you can do is just place upto 3 ads per 20 entries only (or the number of entries your blog is displaying per page, you can change this in your blog's settings.)
After all this, view your blog just to make sure everything is in its proper place. And just sit back, relax and wait for the mailman to bring you your cheque! Of course, this may take months depending on the number of visitor's your blog has. Once again, don't try cheating by clicking on your own ads, Google will know if you've been busy with your mouse and ban you from their program.

Hello Whitepage Bloggers You may have noticed that not much has been happening with the administration of Whitepage recently. This can be partially explained by the fact that Whitepage is a 'side project' (but not a forgotten project) of a commercial entity. See our ' About Us' page for more information. Whitepage is developed and improved upon when the administrators can get some spare time (you know that thing - as in 'so many bloggers, so little time') to work on improvements. We also have some people who volunteer their time to help make Whitepage a better, more user friendly place to blog. You'll be pleased to know that things are beginning to roll along. You may have seen some minor changes to your admin area, such as more entries in the 'Recently Updated Blogs' list. There is another folder in the 'Photos and Files' section for your Videos. We also plan on expanding the FAQ to cover more subjects, as well as provide instructions on the 'what, how, why and where' of templates. We hope you continue to enjoy Whitepage, the first free weblog in Australia. Don't forget to tell your friends! Regards, The Whitepage Team

A weblog is usually defined as a personal or noncommercial web site that uses a dated log format (usually with the most recent addition at the top of the page) and contains links to other web sites along with commentary about those sites. A weblog is updated frequently and sometimes groups links by specific subjects, such as politics, news, pop culture, or computer issues.
In 1998, only a handful of blogs existed, and many of the bloggers knew each other and linked to each other's sites. The media started noticing blogs later in 1999 and drew attention to the phenomenon. But it was the proliferation of free weblog-creation programs in 1999 that made blogging into a hugely popular pastime. Before this software was widely available, most weblogs were hand-coded by web developers and others who taught themselves HTML. The new programs made it easy for anyone to create their own weblog.
Once you have read a few blogs, you start wondering, what benefit do people get from blogging? Is it fame? Publicity? The ability to voice their opinions to the world? In short, the answer is "yes." There are many reasons why people have blogs, and your reason may not be the same as mine. Some people have a creative writing streak (humor, poetry, satire) and like to maintain a blog to exercise that talent. Others (like many of the Domino bloggers) have a wealth of experience in their chosen field, and they choose to share that knowledge with others through their blog. And for others, a blog can be a marketing tool to help highlight their business and add a personal touch to an otherwise static website.
WhitePage.com.au is a free weblog-creation site and we welcome all Australians to start their blog.
Share, create, express!
Regards, WhitePage Team
