Universal Studios and Hollywood - 14/6/07

Well this was an interesting day. Today we headed for a tour through downtown

Hollywood followed by an afternoon at Universal Studios. The morning bus ride was

Interesting…..Hollywood was surprisingly unsophisticated and somewhat familiar despite the fact I had never been here before. It was like been in Pitt St Sydney with a couple of exceptions…

The stars in the footpath, or the walk of stars as it is known, dots the footpaths along Hollywood Blvd. I found a couple of interesting ones (see pictures below). Can you guess which Genre of films I like?

(George Clooney's hands & feet - I'm the same size! - You can read into that what ever you like )

While we were there in Hollywood there was a star ceremony about to be conducted for Barbara Walters (a famous American TV personality on American 60 Minutes show). A Star Ceremony is where they add a new star into the footpath for a new celebrity. It was pretty crazy with police guarding a small area on the side of the street which was totally surrounded by crazy fans including one super crazy guy in a spider man suit holding a sign saying free Paris (as in Paris Hilton).

Universal Studios was the next stop and was an interesting place to visit. The rides were pretty cool. We started with the back lot studio tour which was ok but not exactly as good as I was hoping it would be…

Jurassic Park Ride was cool as was The Mummy the ride…..the special effects were out of this world.

See Frizzi - I went on it!

A Day at Disneyland.......finding facts of course!

Disneyland – Wed 13/6

Hi All, its 11.45pm here in Anaheim and I have just walked in from a 12 hour fact finding day @ Disneyland.....see how hard I work for my favourite year 10 students! Its ok Mr G works hard too……just not this hard though! J

I did find some fascinating facts for you guys, after I had a couple of rides on “The Matterhorn” (a roller coaster through a mountain), a ride with Indiana Jones on a crazy adventure and a log river ride with a 40ft drop at the end of it known as “Splash Mountain”. What I did learn from these rides, could be useful for you as you work on your movie projects. Each of these rides is setup with elaborate scenes and realistic props which make the ride a much better experience. This is something to consider with your movie projects – When using props and scenes detail is everything! The more realistic your set and props the more realistic your film footage will be!

The other thing I came across throughout the day was a range of simulations like we studied earlier this term. The most interesting of these was a bike simulator which allows you to ride a bike anywhere in the world by recreating the places of the world on a computer screen connected to a bike. See the picture below:

You can guess which guy I am! We both road of 1 Mile (1.6km) on this system in less than 2 minutes through the streets of Paris….

The other cool thing a bumped into at Disneyland was a friend of mine called ASIMO. ASIMO is a humanoid robot that can walk with two legs just like a human. ASIMO is the first robot in the world to do this. I met ASIMO in person as the photos below show. You will learn more about ASIMO in our final topic in Term 4.

Finally I would like to formally change the name of the Year 10 IST course to 10 II. This change will see the course name reflect fully what Mr G and I would like to see you guys achieve in this course. We want you to think outside the square and use your Imagination in all that we do!!!! Anything is possible! So the Year 10 Imagination Institute will now be the name for the course. We also have a logo…see the picture below…..

Tomorrow I am off to Hollywood and Universal Studios to hopefully find some useful info and tips on movie making for you to assist with your projects. Speaking of your projects please leave a comment and let me know how your projects are going! Hopefully you are putting your imaginations through there paces!

Ok its way past my bedtime…..

See you soon

Cheers

Tomorrow is the big day

Tomorrow...

I will jump onto a big Qantas chariot (747) [like the one below] and head off to the land of the star spangled banner!!!!

Excitement !

Mr Gorrie will look after you all....and despite the first class seats, wine & beer, a fountain filled with coca cola (Coke) (Megan & Jess ).......it will be a long flight...(14 hours)
but this is a sacrifice I am willing to make for year 10........ Why is Mr G not making this sacrifice?

Let me know how you are all going by leaving a comment on this blog!

Hope to have some exciting entries for you really soon!

Talk to you all from LA really soon

Cheers
