My new fruit trees

I have some new garden additions, which I hope to have photos of soon if I can get the camera going. For my birthday I've received a raspberry bush, a persimmon, a star fruit, and two blueberry bushes (complete with a couple of blueberries) I will have to go out and put the trees in the ground as soon as I finish mowing and mulching the backyard.

Anthony has made me a wonderful frame for my new bathtub wormfarm, now I just have to wait for some more worms to come in stock at the feed barn, as I lost my last lot when my small farm went sour.

I'm looking forward to changing the vege patch around and building the chook pen. Will keep you posted.

One of the presents I received from Anthony (SO) for Christmas was some sugar cane mulch which Dad and I drove to Bundy to collect, was cheaper at the farm gate than some of the varities available here.   For Christmas Charmaine (sis) gave me two fruit trees a lemon and avocado and I bought myself a peach and orange. I also planted out a fig and pomegranate that I had in pots. The tree guards are to try to protect the trees from the constant wind we have here until they are more established.

Upcoming Garden Projects

Well since the houses next door to me have been moved I'm able to get a truck to my back yard, so hopefully I'll be adding some soil to sections of my yard.   I'd also like to make a shade structure for my vegetable garden so it won't cook in summer, I was thinking about polypipe and star pickets but I think it will be too narrow for the pipe to bend, might have to check out the tip shop for inspiration. So as soon as I have finished my assignments I should be back out in the garden. I should also plant some more coloured cotton before it gets too hot.

This is my path to self sufficiency. At present I live in a city with a fairly large backyard. Unfortunately the yard is nearly all rock so I have had to build up any garden beds I've wanted, so far I have 2, a vege garden and a bed where I have my coloured cotton growing.   I would like to start an orchard and grow most of my own food as well as for my chickens and any other critters I might have. It's cotton planting time is here again and I have been inspired to get back into my vege garden so I'll probably start there.
