-Sociology - The Generation Gap-

Generation Y

Born Between the years 1982 - 2003

The Generation Y members are being treated as 'precious.' They are considered to be smart, independant, technologically savy, have a willingness to pusue their dreams, are unable to hold on to their long term goals, if they dislike something they do they will give it up to find something better, they want to work but dont want work to be their life! In account to work, they want to work less but be getting more money and they are not affraid to challange the 'status quo;' they want more time to spend with their families, friends and playing sports! Parents are making concerted effort to tell their children to stay away from drugs, alcohol, profanity, improper TV, unchaperoned gatherings, aggressive behaviour, to be aware of AIDS, and to avoid teenage pregnancy. Politicians take an interest in the quality education, media affects on children, and the war on drug so this generation is not the "Lost" generation.

This generation just wants to have some respect, recognition, contribution and to feel valued.

You either love them or you hate them!South Park

Nirvana- Was one of the most popular rock bands of the 90's!  They played heavy metal, stood for dark pop lyricism and punk aggression. Cobain had killed himself, by a shot in the head.

Lifestyles

Fashion- In the 1990's the world of fashion was always changing, with the latest trends in clothing, hair styles and accessories for men and women, seeing styles from past generations coming back in. The womens casual wear consisted of  sweatpants, sweatshirts, tee shirts, shorts, jeans, leggings, and stirrups. Formal wear is more reavealing usually exposing more skin or making one part of the body more noticeable. They had more daring looks, and hair cuts included the bob or layered. More and more men began to dye their hair, it is also more acceptable for males to take an interest in their appearance than any other decade in history.
