Writer seeks Readers

Posted at 10:00 PM, Monday, March 16, 2009

Can I share a secret with you? I check in at my blog site several times each week, in the forlorn hope that someone out there has written a comment on an entry. Thanks to all of you who have, and particularly to Auntie Em who has been the most faithful correspondent of all. (Even though I get to speak with her by phone an average of once each week!)

After 2 1/2 years of this, I'm beginning to fear that I'm actually sending my blog entries off into a vast void of cyberspace. I worry that the only audience I'm writing for is me. I've tried including a stat counter in my template, but that somehow never seems to work. I'd like to know who's been reading what I have to say so I can know if it's worthwhile continuing. There will always be plenty to fill up the available time.

So, if you're out there and have a minute to post a quick comment letting me know you're reading what I'm writing, that would be quite reassuring. Just post a "hello" or even a "g'day" and maybe write a word of introduction. Thanks for reading--and writing!

I'm here

And I always enjoy reading your blog entries. Please don't stop! I no longer post here, but do pop in every day to catch up on some of my favourite bloggers.

I now blog here http://snowy938.vox.com/ where quite a few of my blog friends are Americans. I have linked to your Medicare posts quite a few times to show your comparison between the US and Aussie Health Systems.

My Statcounter works quite well. Maybe it's worth another try.

Looking forward to your future posts, and my best wishes to yourself and family.

Amy and I have been silently keeping up with your adventures, have found them to be interesting, and have enjoyed doing so. I would imagine that some of your old buddies at BSJC also check out your blogs. You should be able to get some kind of traffic log, or at least implement a counter. We hope that you will continue blogging.

We are still on the Board at BSJC. The synagogue is not that much different than when you were here, but there have been some out of the ordinary adventures which you may or may not have heard about. I would assume that you may have looked at our website and online copy of the Shofar, both which are maintained rather well by Karen Beaudway. These are accessable from http://bethsamuel.org

You might also enjoy seeing our BSJC web albums which we have recently published on Google from the outbacks of Beaver and NW Allegheny counties.

You are invited to view BSJC's photo gallery.

Well, as you pointed out I do write on occasion. I get information and fun stuff that you don't put in your emails, and I would miss all that if you stopped your blog. So I hope lots of readers let you know that they enjoy your posts.

Gday

Found your site by accident a couple of months back and have enjoyed it ever since.

Shoshana, life being as crazy as it is these days, I don't get to check in as regularly as I used to. But I still try to check in and read here at least every couple of weeks. Please keep writing -- and posting photos too! This is one of the few ways I feel like I can keep up with your lives a bit...and being able to do that is a blessing.

Please don't stop writing!

I love your entries and check every week for new postings. Funny or serious, always well crafted. Keep it up!

Greetings

Hello Rabbi,
I share your speculations regarding readership of these sites. It sometimes does seem that one is writing into the wind. I thought a sitemeter was a good gauge (find it for free at www.sitemeter.com), and after a couple of tries even I, a notoriously slow cybernaut, finally managed to tack it on to the bottom of my site, "The Tao...". On the plus side, since then, I have discovered that I am occasionally being read in far-flung, exotic places. It's good to know that, as the meter slowly creeps higher. Friends, yes, they are sporadic readers too, but now, after almost 2 years, I have realised that I am actually keeping a public literary diary; it's great when a comment is left, but the record is mine alone. Does that designify the project? I think not. My poems are on their own: just for some stranger to read. Like charity, I suppose, which does not presume to know its recipient. Anyway, take heart. It's clear that your writing has got plenty of it!
Best,
Rob

Hey there! I know the feeling. I sometimes think my blog goes into a vacuum. I don't read you often, but when I do I take the time to read down and catch up. I think you have a delightful writing style... and are a swell gal to boot. :) Keep writing, m'dear!
