I am a Green because: of a belief that environment should be the first consideration not the last; a belief that all people should be treated equally; a belief that education should depend upon ability not wealth; a belief that health care should respond to need not bank balance; a belief that the gap between rich and poor should be reduced not widened; a belief in public ownership of essential services and infrastructure; a belief that law and justice and dispute resolution should be the basis of treatment of Australian citizens, and of our actions towards the citizens of other countries; a belief in the democratic process; a belief that it is better to treat causes than symptoms, to prevent rather than cure, whether in health or social or environmental matters.
