About Me
I wanted to be a Research Chemist from the day I entered my first Chemistry class at school. Well, I did that for a while, working in the area of Surface Chemistry actually.
After a few years, quite a few years, I thought it was time to try to inspire a new generation of students to think about Science and careers in science, especially the physical sciences.
It seemed to me that students lost interest in the sciences sometime during their school years with the result that fewer and fewer students were entering into tertiary level studies in the physical sciences. So, the place to be would be in the High School classroom. I retrained as a teacher and starting teaching.
Over the years I have met a lot of truly dedicated, hard-working, inspirational teachers but they all share one common characteristic, they never have enough time to devote to the thing that they love, preparing and delivering interesting and exciting classroom lessons.
The widespread use of the internet could change all that, which is where AUS-e-TUTE comes in. The concept is very simple. An online "textbook" that provides information with links to learning activities so students can test themselves and help themselves learn. This frees up some teacher time since it provides ready-made reading and/or homework (with worked solutions) which can be slotted into an online calendar. All the teacher has to worry about is preparing and delivering that awe-inspiring lesson, the lesson content and homework is already available online.
Ofcourse, AUS-e-TUTE can't attend those endless hours of meetings instead of teachers, but we can ensure that a large proportion of their lesson preparation is done.
