An exclusive poll has found most voters would not blame John Howard if interest rates rise this week as expected, as Kevin Rudd accused the Prime Minister of giving up the fight to help people with mortgages.
Howard and Costello always made sure that it was the RBA who made the decisions and held them at arms lenght. they just took the credit for creating an environment where rates would be low.
Rudd on the other hand, as the last writer has observed, has made promises to keep rates low. Even though we all know it's not up to him, unless he starts to control the RBA again the way Keating did.
