This article is about how Australia's federal government has reached an agreement with the state government to introduce neer and tougher terrorist laws. In the end all state leaders agreed to the laws, with one promise in return, that the laws will be revised in 5 years time. The new laws allow the goverment to imprison people for up to two weeks without trial. The laws were brought in mainly to intimidate Indonesian terrorists from doing anything 'funny' in Australia. This caused the Muslim population to worry over the fact that the laws were targeted mainly at their community. The prime minsiter said the laws mightn't prevent an attack on home soil but the laws were necessary for the country's safety. Under the new laws the government are given grater powers to stop and search at airports. The article also stated that while Australia had never suffered a major attack, 88 people had been killed in the Bali Bombings in 2002 and that since September 11, security had been immensly tighter and these laws were just a part of that tightening.

The author of the article of which I summarized was incredibly unbiased in his writing. The article gave no hints as to whether he was for or against the new laws. I myself think some new laws are necessary, but the ones intorduced are way to tough and unfair
