20/8/2007 - Rudd's blunder

This Kevin Rudd stripper-scandal is such a media beat up.  Of course, many of his enemies will try and exploit it, accuse him of hypocrisy, say he has no character, etc.

But if it reveals something about his character, it's that he's amazingly sheltered.  Seems that he was so overwhelmed by what he saw at Scores that he just knocked himself out with the booze.

Kind of sad, if anything.

18/8/2007 - Blokey anxiety not just Australian

Some people say male (and female) unease over homosexuality is cultural.  But I'd say it runs deeper than that.  Humour on the subject of homosexuality, which relies on the underlying unease about it, can be found all over the globe.

Take this film I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.  As this article points out, the plot has a striking similarity to an earlier, Aussie film called Strange Bedfellows.

A European film -- such as La Cage aux Folles -- may be gentler or more sympathetic in its treatment of the same phenomenon.  But it's still there in the film's subtext without a doubt.

29/1/2007 - Dating on TV

Watched that Sunrise show a little earlier.  They have a segment on it where they play matchmaker and find a date for a lonely singleton.  It was quite like that show from way back called Blind Date.  They profiled a girl, asked what she was looking for.  Her three male suitors each touted themselves and their best qualities.  I didn't see how it ended, because it was time to hit the internet.  So, I'm not sure if she chose one then, or later,or what ...

I find it amazing that someone would actually go on a show like that.  Of course, there's nothing wrong with looking for a date.  However, revealing your loneliness to millions of people is an amazingly candid thing to do.

It seems to be part of this whole real TV phenomenon.  People are desperate to get on the box no matter what.  And they are either unaware of -- or simply don't care about -- the possible negative consequences.

8/1/2007 - Power of fame

I always find it fascinating that famous people get hitched with other famous people.  Also, that it doesn't matter what a knob you are; if you're famous you'll still be a chick (or bloke) magnet.

Here's an example:  Soon after being a complete pillock on national TV, Matthew Newton finds a new squeeze --  a member of Aussie acting royalty no less

7/1/2007 - Welcome

Hi.  My names' Robert.  I'm fascinated with psychology, and the dynamics of relationships.  So I thought I'd start this blog, which will link to news and articles on the subject, and include many observations of my own.

Since this is an Australian blog host, with much local traffic, I'll try and focus more on material related to this country.
