2 AND A HALF YEARS IN A COTTAGE
Came here and found sanctuary. Been here a long time. Its been good to me and sometimes I sit here with the lights mostly off and I think about things. There was a snake in the tree today. Winding his way up the trunk of the palm tree. Leapt off when he saw me bringing the remnants of my lemon meringue pie out to throw in the grasses where the long nose lives and the coucal. There was a raptor down there in the paddock as well. Came up and out of the grasses and rode the thermals across the Valley.
Early in the weekend when the rains came again , over 20 frogs died in the swimming pool I scooped them out . The pump broke and I turned it off because my DOS is in Sydney. Lady Dos is in Hong Kong to celebrate her 70th birthday with her family.
Now its quiet and the rains are gone . My folks are dead and my Kids live far away and Izzy is playing music in Murwillumbah and I am home in the silence and peace of an older woman with the edge of old sadnesses and new tears .
