Norths U7 Gold beat Brothers Blue

What a magnificent all round team effort. Best all season.

Defensively, the boys were outstanding. Brothers played a pick and drive type game, keeping the ball in tight. It was very difficult to force turnovers due to their lack of passing.

When they did try and break it open, our line and effort was up to the task, frequently forcing them backwards. The defensive effort was typified by the opening 5 minutes of the second half, when we held them out time after time, and dare I say, it got a tad boring.

If it weren’t for the generosity of the referee, they’d still be there in the dust and sand trying to break the line.

In attack, we showed how attractive try scoring rugby can be. A good mixture of straight running, speed, precise passing and good support play, and not one turnover. The day’s skipper Toby was solid and lead from the front.

Our energiser bunny Tommy put in a mighty effort until illness got the better of him. Sam S. was prominent early, setting the trend for the game with good ball play, support and running. Rhys’s incisive runs through heavy traffic and good offloads set up a number of tries.

The main beneficiary of the good lead up work was Jasper, adding 3 tries to his tally with good positioning and support play.

When it was needed, Fin tucked the ball under his arm, went hard and straight, setting up the go forward for our speedsters.

One of the speedsters Sam N. was a solid all round contributor, which was a reflection of his training effort the night before. Harry, another speedster left sprawled out players, the touch judge and possibly Wily Coyote in his wake, but I couldn’t really see because of the dust.

High fives and 1, 2, 3, Baa Baa’s!!!!

Norths U7 Gold v Ashgrove GPS Maroon

On a warm morning when the boys were without 2 team mates (and reserves) due to illness, the supporter’s consensus at half time was that “the boys are on fire”, whilst at full time, there were cartwheels.

Hope to see both lads healthy and ready to go this week. The game was a little scrappy and somewhat unusual. The boys repeatedly found themselves in situations not experienced before, but responded brilliantly.

The defensive effort was solid, with GPS being forced backwards many times. Highlights included the numerous last ditch cover efforts by Rhys, and the full length Superman dive by Toby, which may have scored a 10 for effort, 9 for grace, but not much for the landing. I never remember try scorers, concentrating more on getting the boys involved.

But given Dad’s cartwheel (only scoring a 4 on this occasion), Fin must have scored a try. If packing down in numerous scrums qualifies as being a prop, Fin is keeping up the good deeds of the game’s modern day try scoring props.

Otherwise, the day’s skipper Sam B. lead by example and was always dangerous with ball in hand or in support. Jasper was also ever present and in good position in support. Tommy was like an energiser bunny in attack and defence, and it’s only a matter of time before he & Jasper add to their try scoring tallies.

Sam N. was at his elusive running best with some long bursts from deep within our own territory. Tough game this week against Brothers.

A good night at training should prime the boys for another big effort.

Caboolture Snakes beaten by Norths U7 Gold

What a good looking team. Well that's what the photographer thought.

The early morning calendar shoot didn't suit at all. 2 tries down before touching the ball.

Then.......... a zig-zag by Toby, and swerve by Sam N., a sizzling sideline burst by Harry, a Sam S. show and go, a sneaky shimmy by Sam B., slick support play by Rhys, a jink & step by Jasper, incisive straight running by Tommy, and long precise passing by Fin soon had up scoring some fantastic tries.

Again, we were taken on up the middle, but excellent team defence ensured the going was tough. Had it not been for the generosity of the wonderful referee, the Snakes would have suffered the same fate as our beloved Wallabies, gone tryless.

5 tough games remaining; 5 games of fun and try scoring to be had.

Norths U7 Purple 35 - 30 Brothers Balck

After our resounding loss last week, we had something to prove.

Jack, once again making brilliant plays (2 tries) and Finley scoring his habitual 2 tries every alternate week.

Thomas went over the line in the dying minutes earning a packet of footy chips from the Team Manager!

Unfortunately Gus’s was tagged 1 metre from scoring after making an astonishing break & run. Although Matty made many breaks, Brothers defence had him shut down. Hamish played his usual strong consistent game; making forward breaks and completing many tags which frustrated the Brothers attack.

Willem made some amazing breaks and set up a few of our tries and “Scooter” (Joshua) was at his freakish speedy best (2 tries).

We still need to be more organised in our defence line, as our coach says “pick your player” instead of the whole team swarming onto 1 opposition player!

Mr Hutton was great as our Touch Judge and thanks once again to our fantastic coach Mitch who has been selected in the U16s North Brisbane Representative Team for the Queensland Championships. Congratulations Mitch, we will be there to cheer you on!

Norths U7 Purple 35 - 35 Caboolture

Whew! That was a close one!

We were 3 tries down in the 1st half, but due to the tenacity of the whole team we managed a well deserved draw.

Caboolture always looked so strong and well organised, but we demonstrated team spirit by pulling together and turning the game around - Jack and Joshua, as always both playing with their usual passion scoring 3 tries each.

Matty went over the line once and when Thomas gets hold of the ball he really moves it forward.

Our little guy Finley pulled out some amazing breaks and Gus is proving he is hungry for the line. Will shows strong driving force week after week and Hamish’s defence kept the opposition well back.

Once we all run forward (not sideways & backwards) in attack and spread out more in defence we will be a force to reckon with!

The boys felt real accomplishment after fighting back to even the score in a real hard fought game. Thanks again to our great coach Mitch, Mr Hutton our ref and our touch judge Mr Patane.

Norths U7 Purple 35 - 25 Ashgrove GPS

Under 7 Purple are proving themselves as the team to beat this season!

Norths started strongly with great attacking forward by Hamish.

Will is cementing his place in the side with his quick footwork and try scoring abilities.

Thomas shows great promise and commitment with Gus’s game improving every week.

Our try scoring consortium consisting of Jack, Matthew, Joshua & Finley led us to victory again!

We did very well scooping up loose balls & snaffling from the opposition.

As always we had fun and we are improving our Rugby skills with every game. Thanks to our fantastic coach Mitch.

Thanks to Mr Patane who was our ref & Mr Hutton our touch judge.

Norths U7 Purple 35 - 30 Ashgrove

This was a very exciting game to watch.

The teams were evenly matched until Finley brilliantly snaffled the ball from the opposition which led to a try!

Our new players this season add to the depth of our talent, a great game played by Will, Thomas & Hamish.  Jack played with his usual flair, nearly pulling off a spectacular flying intercept, he was clapped off the field injured.

Matty carried his previous great form into the new season and Joshua’s game plan of exhausting the opposition by running sideways multiple times then going for the corner works again!  Gus managed a few tags and barged forward to the surprise of his parents!

Thanks to our coach Mitch who had to rush off to his own game after ours.  Our victory would have motivated you, we are sure!  We had fun and we won!
