The Trials of the Monk

26/12/2008 - OMFG Where do I start!!!

Posted in General Gaming
I cant believe so mauch can happen in so few months. Whne someone mentioned they liked my blog in game the other night, I eventually got off my lazy rear end for long enough to log in and think abut posting something.

The I see that my last post was back in july?? My god where do I start to catch up on all things that have happended since then!! I guess I can just go game by game and update the major events in each and see where it ends.

EVE

I believe at last update I had just, or was about to form my own corporation to give that a run and try my luck with membership and wardecs etc and all the goodies that come with running a make beleive insterstellar business.

Well I am happy to report that for all intensive purposes it has been going great guns. Many former members of my first corp MOOB signed on after each took a sabbatical in non-player noob corps. I had also picked up a few new players into the ranks to give them the same kind of help and guidance and financial support that I had recieved in MOOB and things are looking good. We are still only small and most members are a year or less old, but we are gradually expanding.

We are now part of an alliance formed from 4 corps (atm) including a reformed MOOB which gives us more security against bs extortion wardecs (of which we just survived 3 in a row) and give us more firepower and flexibilty in the event of future wardecs. The alliance also have at least one POS that I know of.

The most recent event was the purchase of a Fenrir for corp use (ie: anyone in my copr that can fly it can fly it as long as they have permission to get it form copr hanger) and my alt will be able to pilot in around 2-3 days from this post

Apart from general skilling up (dor now invents and has basic t2 manufacturing skills) and making isk its been the same old same old...apart form the wars....

We received a good old extortion wardec from a particular corp, and as I rfuse to pay ransoms the war  went live. Now this copr were a practiced pvp corp and high sec wardec veterans and were comprised of toons that were far advanced in skills and money and equipement so we did the only thing we could...hide. Eventually they got bored of not popping any of us and failed to pay the fee to Concord to continue agressions, so that war ended..but not before we had been decced by another corp.....

This wardec was another exortion attempt, 160mill, really pennies and nickels in the grand scheme of things, but as before I refuse to pay these things and told them to stick it. These guys were of a similar skill level to most of my older pilots, so with the recruitement of a couple of old MOOB players that were still sitting in npc corps we took the fight to them. So after they lost a couple of ships (killboard here) we found two of there POS structures as well. So we all jumped into our battelships and proceeded to pop several hundred hundred mill worth of assets. All this when they wanted only 160mill. So that war ended (and not before several members of the agressive corp left).

Then the orignal wardeccers returned...so a couple more weeks of hiding till our alliance was formed and the wardec was Yulai'd lol.

Krait's first Tech 2 shipt, the Caldari Assault Ship Hawk

Just bought this 800mill+ Fenrir for the use of my Corp members who can fly it, Krait will be flying in approx 2days from now.

DOD:S

Well to be perfectly honest, I havent played as much of this as I used, thoug still have a run on it at least a coupleof times a week. Fridays nights it is still the game of choice (except tonight as I spent most of it tending to my sick daughter) and it is still a great and entertaining game. Only limit has been teh amount of other games I have been playing as well.

The biggest events of late have been our 2nd internal campaign, this itme around being on axis, I was on the losing side with victory going to the much more organised allies. Another event was the recent Battle For France run by SLAK in which we toggers, not accustomed to competive small tema games struggled throughout and finished close to if not at the bottom of the table lol. But it was a great series, had a lot of fun.

Red Orchestra

This was another game that had taken a backseat to other games, but after a recent challenge ewtween the RO and DOD:S divisions I have been playing more and more of it of late. Been playing a lot on the Snipe server, which is a sniper only server that really keeps you on your toes and shows me just how much of a noob I am when, depending on the time of day I am playing, I cant even see what or who is killing me from the far side of the map.

I have also been doing more tanking, something which I have avoided in the past as I prefer infantry actiosn for the most part. A couple of good local servers run tank only maps and you can occasionally find me around there.

BF2142

Picked this up during the pre xmas sales and thought I'd give it a go. I must say I enjoy the game, the team work aspect is very rewarding. My only ssue is tha somewhere bewtween this game, my computer and Gamearena (where the TOG server is hosted) there is a problem, leaving me unable to connect to the TOG server and other gamearena servers. It is only in this game though as I have and can play other games on GA servers with no problems. More news on this game later.

Anyway, that may do it for this post, there are a couple of other games I need to mention, but I'll do it in a new post a bit later on today or tommorrow, this post is getting a tad long.

30/7/2008 - Well its beena long time between drinks

It has been a while since I lasted psoted anything of significance, here or anywhere else for that matter. So many things have happened and changed that it is hard to know where to start.

DOD:S

Well the glorious Allies finally one the first campaign, steam rolling  a reduced and demoralised axis army in the last few battles. Was a real blast and final results and recognitions can be found here and here

The next campaign, much changed and expanded with a mix up of teams is about to go live on Sunday 3rd August, so now is the time if you want to head on over to TOG and join in :)

Red Orchestra:

I have also began playing a bit of RO of late, picking the game up for a meagre $5 on steam when a special weekend was on. The game is great, much slower than DODS, but requires you to think, plan your movements and learn how to shoot with a steady hand. The maps are generally huge and are really well designed to my mind, the Urban maps being my favorite, the smoke and rubble and fire, all the hidey holes, nooks and crannies, really make for a great fight, and an intelligent fight.

TOG and its players are trying to organise some social gatherings to get some numbers on the servers and realy make the most out of the larger maps. Head on over to the GameArena forums to register your interest if it is a game you play.

Eve Online

Well this is where it is all happening of late. Become wuite the addict, with two accounts running I now have my Industrial toon and my comabt toon running side by side.

The biggest news of late is the disolution of the MOOB corporation (so please ignore the recruitment post below until I get around to deleting it) and most members have gone in many different directions, some as far as Gallente space, looking for there place in New Eden. I personally have stuck to the old MOOb grounds, forming my own corp to see if I can give that a run for the next few months and see how it goes. I am still looking for any interested parties, concentrating on newer players so give the same toon Doragon Orochi a buzz in game and we can talk.

But otherwise, things have cruised along, assets are buliding and ships/equipment are being collected. I may give FW a go in the future with Krait, my combat toon, but he is newish and does not have the standings yet.

Anyway that is all I have time for just at this moment. Check my Xfire page for many cool screenies form eve etc.

27/5/2008 - Corporation Status

Posted in Eve Online
Out of the blue

Well it has been a few days since last udate. Have been busy playing.

On the weekend was having a bit of a mine in a nice quite sector when out of the blue I had my first in game conversation. Things went on and eventually I ended up chatting to a few members of a mining/industrial corporation name Mining Our Own Business. 24hrs later and I was a full fledged member.

Was not originally intending to go downthe corp route for a while yet, but these guys sounded good, currently only smallish and in a good sector for mining basic ores and were friendly. I felt that I could grow along with this corp and joined up.

After being accepted we had a good chat and it was arranged for a mining op to happen after downtime in a charitable jesture to boost my bank account. Well me and my brand new, but little Hoarder could not keep up withthe sheer amount of 3 dedicated mining vessels and by the time I had to quit for the night I had amassed around 10mill ISK worth of minerals, once refined.

Well I have never seen so much cash lol. Sure it is small bikkies ot players that have been around for a while but to me it was like Xmas had come. And you know, I still have most of that cash as I am at a loss at what do to with it all lol

Jonah I: My new logistics vessel off for another load of ore

Current plans are to save and invest in skills unitl such a time as my training has allowed me to get a Minig barge at the least, or an exhumer at the most. Then watch as the isk rolls in :)

Then finally, with a decent money earning base to work form, I can begin the long and expensive process to full industrial operations, especially when the corp gets its own POS.

Anyhoo, thats about enough for this update. I have also been trying the new Day Of Defeat Source Beta, but am reserving judgement for now.....

24/5/2008 - War Report

Allies win tough forest fight!

Copse - After being stalled at their last attempt to penetrate the german lines amoungs the trees of Copse, a determined effort was made to learn from past experience and the battle was on.

An initial mass push up the centre set the scene for a battle which found the allies with the initiative, needing only to consolidate the position for a last dash on the final objective. Working in fire teams of at least four, the allies were able to plug any holes that were beginning to appear in the lines, and were effective in minimising the damn caused by German snipers and machine guns.

Pvt Monk had this to say:

"I never really used a machine gun before, but picked up an abandoned MG42 near the tank and started to let rip...seeing this Company HQ kept providing me with a fresh 30cal whenever needed and the two of us...pleb and I...kept pouring on the fire....."

Reports suggest that the use of the weapon known as a 'bazooka' was instrumental in silencing enemy defensive positions.

Pvt Monk further addded:

"The guys fought very well, with a lot of balls...err...can I say balls?...and never gave up, always pushing, our officers leading the way and taking objectives...everyone put in..hell I even saw a MG detachment go right forward and help win the fight"

Now that the initiative is with the allies, one can only expect further attacks to come as the allied forces make another attempt to throw back the axis armies and push to Germany and ultimate victory. But where will the next attack come?

Pvt Monk had some ideas:

"Well there are a lot of rivers to cross before Berlin, and while the are not easy to cross under fire, we have to do it..."

All inmformation has been forward to the relevant departments for recommendations and awards.

End of Report

23/5/2008 - Rocks Rocks and more Rocks

Posted in Eve Online
Get your rocks off baby!

I've read criticisms of mining in eve being quite boring, and to be honest, at lower noob levels it is, but that is about all I been doing the last couple of sessions. It gets quite frustrating having access only to ships with a lower hold space, but am gradually working up to larger vessels.

My Probe 'Clementine 1' mining in Alf

While that has been going on I have been reading and researching all things Mining and Industrial for later in my career, which will hopefully involve full POS with refining and manufacturing facilities.

I have yet to register a Corp but that will be a while off as a:) I am consistantly broke lol and b:) I'm not game enough to become offciall without a few friends.

I also haven't decided ona  name or home system yet, much more exploring to be done yet, which should be fun.

PewPewPewPew!!

Tonight is friday, and therfore it is fun night on the TOG DOD:S server. A new map has been uploaded - dod_subterrainia, available again from Sunlit Games or simply simply download as it loads on connection. Feel free to join in, it is not exclusive to TOG and a full server is chaotic fun :)

On another note, our server is brand new and may experience some teething problems. Any feed back is welcome on your experience and can be left here as a comment or conact TOG via the site The Older Gamers.

17/5/2008 - Latest Adventures

Posted in Eve Online
Welcome to another little update/rant on my gaming fun. First up we will do Eve methinks...

Ah Frigate!

Well after the previous loss of my Rifter, I have been pottering around in a probe and just doing mining with the view to eventually get an Amarr Punisher.

That task is about done and the game is running now, just taking my probe back to another system before flying back in an expendable ship  to transfer to the Punisher, which is sitting and waitng for me to fit it out with some shiny new zap rays :)

The punisher will be my combat/mission running/ratting ship for the moment and will fit it out as such. Will keep the Probe as a mining vessel until such a time as I can get something bigger, some sort of dedicated mining vessel. The Probe is reasonable I suppose, but goddamn it is ugly!

The Probe: Eww aint it ugly?

The Minmatar are certainly not known for aesthetics that is for sure, but I like some of their craft.

I can fly destoyers, have been able to for a couple of days now, but am unwilling at the moment to do so, am working my way up to a cruiser, once trained sufficiently and can afford one lol.

Ok now I got to get back through some lower sec space in nothing but the rookie ship lol, fingers crossed.

It is a bit weird though, still flying about trying to get some sort of foundation to build on, but the game certainly does not appear to be one that brings much to quickly. I can't wait until I am in the position to set up some sort of personal POS but that is a long long time off yet.

Ok just picked up my Punsiher and am heading off the learn a few extra skills and but some equipment to begin its full fit out

My New Punisher: Now that's much sexier! :)

Achtung Fritzy Baby!

Well even though Eve has taken most of my concentration and time this week, I still managed to grab some time on the TOG DOD server tonight. Played some fairly interesting maps. The latest version of Anvil is really nice, my first time on that map and it is well made, looks great and has many paths to fight along. You can pick it up from Sunlit Games, or simply jump on the TOG server when you see any of us on and ask if it can be changed so you can fast download it.

13/5/2008 - Wins and Losses

It has been up and down in my gaming the last 24 hours or so, but it has all been good and all part of the hobby :)

The first good news is that The Allies finally won our campaign fight.

For those of you who dont' know, fellow TOG clanmates and myself have a weekly DOD:S fight as part of a campaign, with win or lose deciding which map will be played the following round amoung other things. It has set teams (once an ally always an ally etc) and makes ofr some great fights when everything is on the line.

This was our third (maybe at least my third attempt since joining TOG) attack at Colmar, being beaten previously by the Axis forces the previous two times and our reputatioins and morale was at stake this time around.

With some vehement 'instruction' from our glorious leader Naverone and a bit of random t/k'ing at the start, we soon settled in for a last ditch effort to push the lines forward and make it to a new map. We managed to come together on our pushes, providing more support and flexibilty than in the past, and with a bit of mad panicy scrabbling managed a fairly convincing win. Felt good :)

That leaves us to next round in about another 5 or so days. Not sure of the map, is outpost or copse or something, will confirm later in the week.

I have strated playing EVE:Online this week, and what a fantastic game for sure. However this evening I had my first taste of losing hard worked for assets, losing my new Rifter to a swarm of drones. Out gunned mainly, need better weapons to deal with the drones faster before their numbers got the better of me (was not happy when had to escape in my little pod before being pod killed as well ) and i was not quick enough in beating a hasty escape, the ship blowing up about 1 second before the warp engines got me the hell out of there.

My pretty and leathal looking but now sadly dust RifterImage: My leathal looking and somewhat attractive, but now dust Rifter. RIP :(

Yeah I know, I'm still a newb and forgot to insure the ship so now I have to rebuild the finances and expand my fleet again. However I am qualified to pilot the next class up adn am thinking of buying a Thrasher for an all round combat/mining vessel to really get things rolling.

I am still on a trial account at the moment, but am fairly convinced of the quality of the product and am likey to break my own rules about pay to play games, and subscribe to this game. Then I will really be able to get stuck in and put all those industrial skills, which have been for the moment left stagnant, to good use.

Anyhoo that is about if for this update. Will return when I have more gaming news.
