For real this time. We have to take the last load in this morning, so the computer is being pulled apart very soon. I think we just might make it.
Ok guys... I think I've said this before... but we're going to miss you. Hopefully we'll be up and running again sooner than later... but we'll stop in every now and then to say a quick hello.
Take care to all of you... but especially the special people. All good things to all of you. Signing off... Tina XX

• Wednesday 6 September 2006 - Getting there.
Permanent Link
Ok, time for a quick hello.
The lounge room is done. Only the tv (desk, etc) and a couple of mattresses in there to move. There's several full boxes along the wall ready to go into storage tonight, and a couple that are accumulating contents slowly. Wow, the room looks empty.
The kids' rooms are done. All clothes and toys (apart from one plastic storage box each) have been packed and stored already. Again, there are a few mattresses in the bedrooms, but they'll be going in tonight. Tonight we'll have a relatively uncomfortable night on the thin little mattresses that go with the swag and camping beds.
Our room is almost done. I culled down my clothes to one relatively large box. There was another box of personal stuff... handbags, jewellery, paperwork, old birthday cards, craft stuff, etc... and that's been packed too. G has to go through his clothes when he gets home from work. I don't want to do his clothes... I'd be afraid of chucking something that he really wants to keep. Besides, it was hard enough to throw away the ones I don't need any more.
The bathroom/linen cupboards have been 90% done. There's a couple of things left in there that G needs to check through... personal stuff. The laundry hasn't been touched yet, apart from frantically trying to get the pile of washing down. Not that there's much in there to pack... some irons, ironing board, etc. That won't take long at all.
The kitchen has been picked through. I packed up some stuff a couple of days ago that will go into the garage sale. I'll need to go through it again tonight. We have three or four sets of crockery, and a couple of spare drawers full of cutlery, knives, and other kitchen knick-knacks. I will cull them down to a large crockery set and one draw full of the cutlery, etc. And because we both had our own stuff when we moved in together, we also have a number of multiple items... blenders, coffee makers, toasters, etc. These will all have to be culled down too. More fodder for the garage sale.
Outside... the blokey area has been sorted through and divided into 'keepers', 'garage saleables' and 'toss-aways'. It's all been either thrown away or taken into town to be put into storage. There's a heap of potted plants still out there, but they should be pretty easy to manage. Then there's only the matter of mowing the lawns. We've decided that we're going to clean up and mow, even though the landlord didn't bother to give us that courtesy. We don't want to give him anything else to whinge about. It'll all work in our favour in the court case, anyway.
Tonight... another load will have to go into town. The last of the big stuff, at least, and all of the smaller stuff that we can. We have our angel helper, Mick coming over again tonight with his ute and his trailer. G couldn't get the van again tonight... one of the vans is off the road, as well as one of the trucks... so they can't spare us a vehicle. That's ok though, we should manage. Mick will also be here tomorrow to transport the cupboards that are locked in the shed. By 3 pm we should be out of here.
Oh, I'm looking forward to being done... not that it'll last for long. Friday and Saturday have been booked in already. We'll need to go through everything again to find all of the stuff that has been designated for the garage sale, and get it all set up ready to go. Sunday will be busy too, hopefully... the day of the garage sale. Aaarrggh! We'll need a holiday after this.

I wanted to say a quick good-bye... no, more of a seeyalater... while I've got the chance, and just in case I don't get another. Tomorrow will be a full day, and we'll probably be pretty busy on Thursday too. Now, don't expect me not to say anything, because you know me... any chance to sit down is taken graciously (probably abused). I'll try to take a bit of time before we go, but just in case I don't... I'll miss you guys. Hopefully... all going to plan... we won't be gone for too long. But, even if it is a long absence, we'll try to pop in and say hi when we can. But I'll miss you anyway. In the words of the immortal Bill and Ted... "Be excellent to each other."

... got a few minutes before the bus run.
Oh my god. I still can't see the end of it. I'm tired, I'm cranky, I'm sick of having to decide what's going and what's staying. Just been through the clothes and finished off the girls' room, but there's so much more that needs to be done. Gryph's bringing the van home again tonight, and we might not be able to get it again, so everything is a big rush today. We'll have to take the rest of the big stuff in tonight. I was kind of hoping to get another day or two to get stuff organised. I've still got washing to do... and we'll have to keep our foodstuffs in an esky...
It looks like we'll have to find some new homes for the animals too... at least a couple of the dogs, if not all of them... if we haven't found a house by the end of the week.
I hate having to do this... moving sucks big time.
We've been thinking about selling everything up and buying a bus. Yeah, I know... that wouldn't be very practical in our situation. But it's a dream that we've both had... to take off and live like gypsies... and considering the problems that we've had trying to stay put... well, it's almost a really tempting idea.
I wonder if there's anyone out there who would like to swap a houseful of good furniture for a decent, registered and roadworthy caravan or bus?

There are actually a few 'swap' sites on the net. I googled 'swap furniture for a bus' but didn't get any results :-(.
Did you hear/read about the story of the man that managed to swap a paperclip for a house? (There were several 'swapages' in between that got him to the house).
Again, I know it's not much, but I'm thinking of you guys! Take care.

The boys in action... I'm going to get in trouble for this... but these are also some of my favourite shots of the weekend, so I have a legitimate justification. Saturday.... Boys being boys... A break in the hard yakka was demanded when the slingshots were uncovered. By this stage they'd been carting furniture for a few hours and had the first load about ready to go. We decided by majority poll that a bit of R&R was in order. The boys got the slingshots and we got the cameras, so we were all happy. From left: Mick (the hand) and Macca, my nephew. Sunday... heading in for the first load. The boys doing their best to retain their anonymity. LM9 and I stayed at home and tidied the girl's room. Packed up a lot of stuff that went into the next load. I still haven't culled my clothes yet. Sunday Afternoon... The bonfire had been going for a while. This bookcase was one of the cullable items, so the boys had to chuck it onto the fire too. Mick and Macca (out of shot) had a ball destroying stuff. One... Two... Threeeee....... Just as it's leaving their hands... And just as it's landing. If you look carefully, you can see that the bookcase has knocked a few of the bricks into the fireplace. On the right of Mick's legs you can see them just starting to fall inwards. Ok, now I've got to type up some minutes for the P&C... then the clothes. And I'm not going to let myself stop. I want to get more stuff done before tonight. Oh, I'm going to sleep for a week when this is over.

• Monday 4 September 2006 - I hate moving.......
Permanent Link
Woah, what a weekend. Saturday and Sunday were both spent packing and moving the big stuff... lounges, cuboards, bookshelves. We got most of it packed and stored away. Mick and Macca were our godsends. Two harder working young fellas, you won't meet. We couldn't keep up with them... bloody hell, we're getting old... but they kept us motivated. I doubt we would have managed without them. All the thanks in the world guys... not that either of them read this... I just love 'em.
God, we've got some stuff. I thought so after the last move, but we seem to have a lot more now. I suppose... we've bought a few pieces of furniture since we've been here, and managed to fill them up with stuff. We're both hoarders... we have stuff that I've been hanging onto for years, kid's stuff galore, books (BOOKS!), stuff that Gryph's had for years, more that he inherited, lots of stuff we've bought together... and a large portion of it is old shit that we've found on our excavations somewhere.... old bottles, coins, buttons, rusty old stuff, etc.
But I think most of it has to do with the way we're moving this time. Last time, a lot of it was just tossed into the nearest receptacle with the intention of sorting it as it came out. By the time we got around to it we just seemed to find somewhere to store it and it got hidden away. Oh, we did get rid of a heap of stuff last time too, but this time we've been absolutely ruthless... you'd be proud of us. I was going to load up some pics of the bonfire we had, but I'm running out of time this morning, so I'll do it sometime else. At the moment we've got our dining table, two chairs and computer... and a flash looking workstation it is too... a desk, the tv, the washing machine, a couple of tool cupboards (plus the cupboards that are locked in the shed), tools and clothes, linen etc. Most of this has been culled already. We'll see if we can get the van again one night this week and we should get all of that in a load without a drama. Anything smaller that's left over... boxes, suitcases, etc... can go in the wagon whenever we're going in.
Anyway, quick plan of action for us... We'll be gone from here by Thursday at 3pm. By then everything should be gone. We couldn't get a truck, so Gryph brought the work van home. It's one of those tall Mercedes ones, and let me tell you... that thing can hold some crap. We did 3 trips over the weekend and managed to take most of the big furniture. Now, as I said, we have a lot of stuff... think about it... we have 5 kids' worth of stuff, for a start. Add to that the house-full of furniture that I owned, the house-full of furniture that Brad owned, and a half a house-full that his Mum owned. Aannd... that's just inside the house. I won't mention the workshop full of tools, wire, fishing gear and various other blokey stuff that makes up Gryph's tool-y collection. Then there's my rocks... but I won't go there. Let's just say that I was ruthless.
So, today I want to pack the smaller stuff and get it ready to move. Tomorrow I might have to work for half a day, so I might book the lawns in for the afternoon. Wednesday, cleaning and packing all of that stuff you always leave for last. Thursday we should be able to take the dregs into town and fix up anything that we might have forgotten.
*how do you write that little grunty sound that kids make when they don't want to clean up their room and you insist... the one that they make as they're shaking themselves up and down with their face all screwed up?*
There's so much more to do...
Gotta go... school run... work run... then back to it. *that noise again*

What a mission - you guys are doing well though.
Is so hard to cull and be ruthless - especially when there are so many memories involved. Moving is a nightmare at the best of times.....am so glad you have had the help you have had. (any more pics of the nephew?? oh dear....:O)
Take care...deep breath...hmmmph.

Got time for a quick entry. The boys have just taken a load into T's place, so I'm taking a half-hour break for lunch. Got to get into the girls' room later. That should be fairly easy. Most of it's done... only mattresses in there for the kids to camp on.... some clothes and toys still there, mostly rejects, so they'll go into the garage sale box if they're any good. If not, we're going to have one hell of a bonfire tonight. Anyway, apart from packing, carrying, lifting, cleaning... this is what I've seen so far today. Smoko Time: Macca was being the big boy that he is. He found the slingshot and decided to have some fun. He was using rocks to try to get the green box in the puddle... so of course I had to bring the camera out. How are these for splash shots? I'm not sure who the clever one was, but this struck me as being funny. The monkey's been Gryphonn's mate for years, so he made sure he had a good spot by the window, right at the back of the van. Can you imagine following this down the highway? "Don't get too close, man." Ok, I've probably wasted most of my half hour break, so I'd better get back to it. I at least want to get the girls' room looking a bit more tidy. Then I've got to cull the clothes in our wardrobe. *shudders* I hate going through my clothes. I like too much of it. Be brutal... be brutal. Music of the hour... John Butler Trio, Sunrise over sea.

Mmm. Saturday... been moving. A couple of good friends have been helping today... Mick and Macca... one of them just happens to be my nephew. He wouldn't let me put his pic up because he reckons he's going to pull all of the chicks. Got a fair bit done today. We went into town to drop a load off to store at a friend's place. It was really dark in town, and it had to happen sooner or later... we spotted a rainbow. There's my baby in the dirty white van. Well, back to it. Music of the hour... Pink Floyd, The Wall. Time for a beer, I think.

Got time for a cuppa. Packing and moving... aaaaaaarrrggghh !!! The birds were out this morning though. It was almost like they were saying good-bye. I got a few nice shots and I gotta share them. First is the cockatoo. They were out squawking and this one did a loop to see what I was doing... Then I looked around at all of the bigger birds picking on what I thought was a crane. I took a photo as it took off from the dead tree and thought 'that should be good'. When I checked the photos I found out that it had been the Sea Eagle. Finally, check this out. I think he left his best for last. And despite the bad conditions, the camera worked pretty well. Then I saw a pair of Forest Kingfishers. These are the Eastern Form. They're only little guys, and pretty shy, but they let me get pretty close. Saturday. Cloudy.... nope, raining. Listening to Fleetwood Mac... Rumours, of course.
