The Kershaw Gardens is a nicely thought out park area in the heart of Rockhampton. This place has been a good friend to me in the past... maybe even my saviour. There are many man-made, but very natural looking pathways to explore. Some are completely paved, and then there are the ones like this... it's almost like being lost in the bush... and in places you can barely even hear the cars that zoom past on the highway.

All of the plants have been named and signed, and the different trees attract their own unique brand of wildlife into the park. There's always plenty to look at and appreciate. It was a hot, bright day when we visited, so the light was hard to deal with. This pic really doesn't do these black cockatoos any justice. They're beautiful.

There are thousands of butterflies in little clusters everywhere. This guy was obliging enough to stay still for me for a bit.

There's a lovely playground for the kids, filled with fun equipment of all sizes and shapes. This bench nearby took my eye. I like the way the bright colours contrast with the trees.

This old Southern Cross windmill was brought in in pieces and re-assembled near the scented gardens. I liked the way the sun flared... you can see how hot the day was.

The scented gardens is a circle of fragrant plants and herbs around a pretty fountain. It's a nice place to stop and appreciate the smells of nature. The water spilling out of the fountain proved too much to resist.

At the end of the walk is the waterfall. It's completely man-made , from the rocks to the plants to the lagoon. The water level is a bit low at the moment, so a couple of the 'spills' have been cut off to conserve water. It still looks pretty spectacular though.

The lagoon attracts many species of waders and water birds. This little water hen made her way across my viewfinder, so...

It also supports a number of other creatures... insects, fish... and turtles. This place is cool.
