Breaking the Rules

Posted in buildings
Every photography book will tell you that you don't take photos in the middle of the day. The light is better in the morning and evening. Many photographers call the first and last hour of light "the Golden Hour". Sometimes you have no choice and sometimes it may even help.

I had passed this building earlier and with the light showing straight on the side it looked dull. I just kept going.

On my way back at lunchtime it caught my eye and I had to stop. The overhead light highlighted the texture of the stone. Each one stood out seperately.

Sometimes it's good to be a rebel and break the rules.

Rules? They are there to be broken - is something looks right at the "wrong" time that's fine...:)
(I don't know the rules and if I did, chances are I would break them all the time...probably do already.)

And the bricks look fabulous - love old buildings like this and you're right, having the detail makes it look great.

I really like the way this shot turned out for you.

My rule is - if it looks good, shoot it! As much as I'm trying to learn, I'm trying not to learn/follow the rules. I'd much rather shoot something that pleases my eye than be restricted by rules!

That's right rules are meant to be broken.

The rust/colour on the iron roof also contribute to the whole shot. I love old buildings.

We have just come back from a weekend at Beechworth and every trip over we pass this old homestead that has just been going to ruin, and every time we wish we could buy it and do it up. Well the opportunity has gone, someone is finally doing it up. The fallen down verandah now has new frame work and on our next visit I am sure it will have a whole new verandah around it. We missed out, but at least the old building will see better days again.

Thanks,
Chezza

Old becoming new

It is good to hear of the old being given new life. I hope they do it well and not try to modernise too much. Not far from this building is a church being restored for its centenary (I think).

We have lost too much off our short history.
