So after all that.
Some of the other members of the line up when required are.
Davey Rankin plays Trombone & sings, he is known through out Australia, in the Jazz, Blues & contemporary music scene. Originally from Melbourne he recorded with Sny Chambers Bayside Band with Judith Durham on Vocals. They had a number one hit with Steptoe & Son. Dave also featured in Adelaide where he had recording & TV success again. He is truly a great entertainer.
Peter Morrison on guitar & harmonica. Many bands utilize him as their lead guitarist because of his well-honed skill. He also has a deep knowledge of stringed instruments & is kept busy at his guitar workshop on the Gold Coast.
All the players have performed at many Australian music festivals including Tamworth country, East Coast Blues & Roots (Byron), Maleny-Woodford Folk, Bellingen Jazz, Gympie Muster, Blues on Broadbeach (Gold Coast), Art, Food & Jazz at Kingscliff & many other festivals.
The Hillbilly Blues Bandits write much of their material but draw from a wealth of ideas dating back to the start of the 1900s. Influences can be detected from the likes of Big Joe Williams, Robert Petway, Memphis Minnie, Charley Patton, Kokomo Arnold, Casey Bill Weldon, Willie Johnson, Willie McTell, Tampa Red, Tom Dorsey, Frankie half pint Jaxon, Kansas City Kitty, Blind Boy Fuller, Roy Smeck, Skip James, Tommy Johnson, Ishmay Bracey, & contemporaries like Robert Nighthawk, Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim, Otis Rush, Irma Thomas & many more. In the Rockabilly/ Rock & Roll field, influences come from Elvis, Jerry Lee, Carl Perkins, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Johnny Burnett & more.
If you havent heard of these old legends (not the band!), then you should get out & catch the HBB. Its cheaper than buying the old records, & you wont get most tracks on modern day DVDs or CD anyway.
So be wise & dont jive or take the lonesome road blues home, come see the Hillbilly Blues Bandits on a street corner soon.
