Australia's Worst Weeds - Image Gallery

27 September 2007 4:40 PM

Weeds cost Australia at least $4b per year.

That's much more than the cost of salinity and it's roughly equivalent to the annual cost of illicit drugs to Australian business or the yearly value of our gold exports.

The Weeds CRC has compiled an image gallery of some of the worst weed infestations in Australia. Many will undoubtedly be familiar.....

Mother of millions (Bryophyllum delagoense) is a major environmental and pastoral weed in eastern Australia, mother of millions poisons and kills hundreds of cattle in Queensland each year. Native to Madagascar, the plant has escaped from Australian gardens infesting roadsides and vacant land.

While you're at the Weeds CRC website, you might like to explore some of the other features of the site, particularly the Factsheets and Guidelines which includes advice on weed management in the garden and selecting native alternatives to weedy species.
