11/10/2008 - Bid Sniping = Ebay Sleazeware.
Many years back when I actually did use Ebay, I found that a pattern was emerging of being frequently outbid, in the impossibly small margins between bidding manually in the last second and a page refresh.
The thing was I was on 56K dial up and I found that "arseholes" according to my definition, were using automated rebidding software, on high speed broadband.....
No fucking chance. (well not if you know how to play the system - and have heaps of cash)
As far as I am concerned an auction is only an auction when people are in attendance and bidding in person.
Internet speeds aside, a human vs., machine bidding is completely unfair.
And again, the fucks in Ebay say it's against their rules to use sniping software... but again they do absolutely NOTHING to stop people using sniping software.
But when I stopped using Ebay (years ago)....
I found that I could walk in to a real world shop, be served by a real world person and get a real world warranty, with a real world company at a real world location....
Ebay???? Uhhh spare me.
I mean - Fuck Ebay.... their fees and charges and all their bullshit... and the dodgy sellers..
I now only shop online for hard to get things - usually not supplied by a local retailer, and I find it to be usually better to go to real world "online shops or companies" - to deal direct and buy as the needs be.
But to incorporate better ways of thinking and doing... this site here has some interesting insights into sniping on bids...
Irrespective of Ebay being the ultimate fuckhole, the guy has given the process of sniping and automated software much thought, and his words ARE worth studying...
