Saturday, October 10, 2009 - Ebay Australia - Crappest Competion and Prize Ever
Ahhhh yes that dickwad of dalliance Paypal aka the Ebay crash cash cow... the LOSERS that manage that have decided to hold a competition to see what innovative programmers there are around to screw over to allow the leeches to scrap the skins from the living dead - in order to make a few last lousy bucks before Ebay goes tits up....
PayPal has announced a developer competition at Web Directions South in Sydney, and up for grabs is a trip to the PayPal conference in San Francisco next month.
The prize will go to the developer who comes up with the most creative idea on how to use one of PayPal's new APIs.
The widely used payment provider’s new APIs allow developers to embed its payment system into their applications and platforms.
In July, PayPal formally announced its Adaptive Payments System, in beta, and opened its online payments system to third-party developers.
On November 3-4, PayPal will hold PayPal Innovate X, its first developer conference in the US, where it will launch the open payment platform PayPal X.
To be in the running for the prize, developers will need to complete a special registration form at PayPal's booth during Web Directions South, and will then have until October 15 to submit their ideas.
The winner will be notified on the October 19.
After reading all of this I thought..... What a fucking idiotically stupidly scummy way to run any competition; It reminds me of an old add that kind of went like this, "Spend $500 on any selection of garbage bars and send all the wrappers in plus proof of purchase, and you could be in the winning for one of these ace prize packs, consisiting of 10 of our own branded gym bags, 100 drink bottles and 1000 free garbage bars...."
Even the young guys on the add had that smirk of "What an arsehole set of prizes these are".....
And the prize - does anyone remember the total washout of the last major Ebay convention? 20,000 invites were sent out for the Chicago Ebay Live convention - 200 turned up.
Yep - you get to go to the Paypal convention.
Mind you I am not against getting credit for bright ideas or legitimate innovation, but unless I had a legal team and a good set of managers, the price of an airticket and a bed and meals for 3 or so days might be all that you do get; while these arseholes run off and make a million out of your idea......
At least the scumbag antics of Ebay and Paypal would be wholly consistent.
