Saturday, September 5, 2009 - eBay presented OZtion its 250, 000 users
This is a little dated.... from sort of early 2008, when Ebay tried to muscle all the customers into using Paypal - "Exclusively" for everything - which amounted to taking about 5 or 6 bites of the cherry on every sale..... and tried as part of an overall stratagy to monopolise the online payments system in Australia to specifically exclude all other payment systems... like Google Checkout for instance......
Well the buyers and sellers gave a huge "Fuck You" to the stupid, lying, greedy, and despicable people who run Ebay - and they walked.
The competition to Ebay competition graciously acknowleged the favour.

eBay presented OZtion its 250, 000 users
Recently Australian eBay banned all the payment methods except PayPal. Due to these new rules eBay has lost a lot of its customers and users. But this situation is favorable for the competitors. So, online auction OZtion, launched in 2005 in Melbourne, stated that after monopolizing of PayPal their listings grown by 22% in the last two weeks to 580,000 simultaneous listings. At the same time the number of daily registrations has increased by 165% and the number of new sellers - by 300%. So, the total number of inline registrations has exceeded a quarter of a million.
"The fact that OZtion has seen significant growth across most metrics shows that Australians are looking for alternatives to eBay and will not be forced into only using PayPal. Our internal data shows that 79% of buyers prefer to pay by bank deposit," commented Philip Druce, General Manager for OZtion.
But this success is not only a "service" of eBay. OZtion made much to improve the quality of its service and to make it more convenient. So, OZtion has created identity checks for its members and has also has partnered with Australia Post to provide the same level of identity check needed to open account in a bank. According to Philip Druce OZtion focuses on preventing fraud and has created a range of identity checks for both buyers and sellers, allowing Australians to shop online with confidence.
