another day at the officePosted on 2006-08-22 at 08:40 - 1 Comments - Post Comment - LinkI've been assigned another job, which is a _real_ contribution to the company.It makes me feel good to be doing stuff that is real. For the first month and a half of working here (at my new job) I was basically practising with the app. My new job is an advertising agency where we produce department store catalogues. There are a number of 'Mac-operators' who do the work of creating the catalogues. The programming team (currently consisting of 3 people) looks after the app. 2 programmers are in the office where I work, that's myself and my supervisor. The other programmer is interstate. I'm am trying to keep this blog anonymous, since I experienced some severe embarrassment when I did a similar thing last year and had to abort. So we, the programmers, make sure new things are added to the app, maintain old things, take care of deployment of servers, do administration etc. But mainly programming. The title of this entry is good enough so I renamed the blog. My supervisor is a guy I will refer to as S. He will know who I mean as soon as he reads this blog, but that's ok. Since I've only been in this job for 8 weeks and I'm getting to know a considerably large application, I don't have the feeling that I've been very productive. I have produced one component that is ready to use. The workings of it can probably be improved because I'm not that well versed with WebObjects yet. I am starting to gain some insight into how it works, which is great, but I by-no-means feel comfortable with the technology yet. So today I'll continue on my quest to improve that understanding. On the weekend I had some successes with computing where I reconfigured the DNS for some domains that I'm handling. That all works now, so www.aldingabay.info is up and running again. Great! Great! Great! Great! Great! Great! Great! Great! So on to a fruitful, joyful, productive and full-of-life week. week 9 day 1Posted on 2006-01-08 at 10:35 - 1 Comments - Post Comment - LinkWith the feeling of a well-completed upgrade behind me, I was kindaapprehensive and anxious about getting going again on snbs jobs. I still have to figure out quite a lot about snbs. Kitty called me and asked me to drop her basket off. She asked me this twice. This caused me anxiety. I was quite clear to her in suggesting alternatives (namely that she pick up from my place) and explaining that I really don't have time to do that. I have only half an hour in real terms when I get home from work. |
