21/5/2009 - Of Bush Again on May 28
I still have loads of work to do to prepare for our touring season, but I am getting there.
I head off to Alice Springs on May 28 traveling a slightly different route to the one I normally take. This time I intend to go via the Sandover Highway.
Once in Alice, we begin the Simpson trip from Alice Springs to Birdsville (8 days), visiting Chamber's Pillar, The Lambert Centre, Mt Dare, Dalhousie and then across the desert via French line, Colson, WAA, Erabena, WAA, Knolls, French Line, K1 and QAA lines.
Once rested in Birdsville I head back out into the desert for the trip up the Hay River. The Hay runs into and disappears into the desert, and makes for a fascinating trip. It is a shame people are stealing the artifacts such as grindstones etc, but there is still plenty of aboriginal and white history to see if you know where to look. The trip travels then from Jervois to Winton via Old Cork. Once finished I head home for a few days then tackle Cape York for 20 days.
Cape York this year should be a good trip, last year the weather turned bad on the last few days.
Once finished the lap of Cape York, I head from Cairns to Broome on our Across the Top Tour then if we get some bookings I'll do a lap of the Kimberley before returning for one more lap of the Cape.
Those interested in our progress can track my car at http://aprs.fi/?call=VK4MDX-15&mt=m&am...imerange=259200
