11/3/2010 -

There is a point when Im making a sculpture (particularly a representational sculpture) where the work becomes real.... that is it "wakes up"...

I know some people will think this is airy fairy nonsense but it's true and I promised this would be a journal of thoughts etc in relation to my art practice.

I love it when they wake up... nothing makes me happier.

8/3/2010 - Monday Plans

I wasn't too good updating the blog over the last few weeks.

Needless to say quite busy.  This week the plan is to finish this ready for a patina by early next week.

I am working for Art Promotions doing a mailout this morning and then hope to be in the studio by this afternoon.

As soon as this commission is done Im going to put my granny hat on and nest in preparation for a visit from my gorgeous Mali over Easter....

20/2/2010 - new work

Yesterday I made a start on a new welded bronze portrait.. this one is for a commission and hopefully it will come together with no dramas..

Im certainely getting more methodical... no  more scratching round in the dark.. I haven't got time.

Under this mess is my Question sculpture... I don't have a master so I had to use the last cast from the old mould.

I hope to have her out and in the gallery by the end of the week.

Today we are off up to the Sunshine coast to deliver work to a gallery and to spend the night with a friend..

Then back to the studio tommorrow and the new girl.

17/2/2010 - Rubber pain

A trip over to Wacol early to get some rubber for my new mould of "Question" .. price has gone up so 1hour and $570.00 later I trot home with my two little buckets of gold.

I was determined to get the first side poured today so decided to go ahead and do it alone.

It was the biggest pour Ive done (4000mls) and it took nearly an hour to fill.. by the time I finished it was starting to gel.. panic time.

Its done and Im just watching it at the moment....

Also finished the extra cast of Sunday Morning for a customer at Red Hill

One of the things I have to do this year is help my sister to move up here from Sydney.... she is not well.

So Im keeping my eye out for a suitable flat for her.... hoping the universe helps out with this one... Im going to need it.....

13/2/2010 - Exhibition report

Last night was the opening of Women of Substance at Red Hill Gallery.

A few wonderful surprises from some loyal old friends who refuse to give up on me!

Sales wise things are going very well with five sales all up and two commissions.

The show runs all through February so that's good.

Now back to the fairy paintings! ATTACK today!

12/2/2010 - Exhibition

Tonight is the opening for this

Also continuing with my commission for four paintings.

Im getting there.....

Ive had a few setbacks with my large mould.. had to start again as the seams were not in the best place.

As long as it's right before the rubber goes in... I don't mind wasting a bit of plaster (and two days)

23/1/2010 - casting chores

Spent today doing a cast of Question.  A difficult job as the mould leaves a lot to be desired. I am trying to work out if it would be worth it to spend a few hundred dollars on silicon to make a new one or to struggle along with this one.

It definetly creates a lot of work in the cleaning up stage with seams etc.. if the resin of the fill leaks out over the bronze it is hours of sanding to get rid of it.

so I won't find out til tommorrow if I have hours of sanding or if I v'e been lucky.

Also I have done four prints of Divers for a customer who wants a particular wash and it is not easy to manipulate wet washes to get exactly the right depth of colour to  match another.

Ive been very lucky with my new gallery in Montville as they have sold  everything and are waiting for more. That's this week's job.. along with a start on my painting commission. I have been doing colour studies for those.

7/1/2010 - Hit the ground running!

What a start to the new year... putting in long hours to finish the work for Red Hill. I should be ready for images by the weekend (well I have to!)

Then I will be trying to do as many cold cast pieces as possible.. I have a few commissions waiting for the little girls from an old customer and then I want to do some for Manly...big ones as well as small..

Also my new little gallery in Maleny ( Main Galllery) is selling fast as well...

I have to say that Im incredibly lucky that I have a man such as Laurie... He has devoted this week to helping me.. all the washing up, shopping and he is finishing and mounting two pieces for me for the show as well..

AND he bought me this.. SO much better than the ol Dremel.

13/12/2009 - Documentation Day

Yesterday I spent the day documenting my new work for an exhitition in February

Its a job which is well out of the way.. timeconsuming and fiddly to set the back drop up and get the work looking its best.

What did we ever do without digital photography?
