............. Day by Day - So, the countdown begins - Blognow

Day by Day

No man is an island, entire of itself. Every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. John Donne.

10/4/2007 - So, the countdown begins

Update:

I am reliably informed that Blognow have taken delivery of a new server which should solve all the current problems. We shall see.

I'm at the age where one is increasingly conscious of how precious one's time on earth is. So, I do not intend to spend my remaining years waiting while Blognow decides if it is going to condescend to let me in to my blog, or not. I have said that if Blognow hasn't improved by the end of this month, then I'm off to http://snowy938.vox.com/ If you decide to create an account there, join the Whitepage group if you want to stay in touch with ex Whitepage (Blognow) members.

It is only because I am reluctant to leave the many friends I have made here that I have persevered. I do appreciate the efforts of Blognow (Whitepage) in introducing me to blogging. I think we did have something special here in our little community. But, enough is enough. So, the countdown begins.

15 days to go.

I'll be at msrinny.wordpress.com/.
I hope it doesn't come to that, though.

We'll still be able to keep in touch if we all move to wordpress.
I don't think you can PM there, though, which is a bit of a bummer.

..and yes.. far as I can see, it doesnt look one can PM there. BN does have some real 'issues', for far too long, and, explaining to do - well, rather - explanations may soon be not enough!
Well I'd better keep this visit short I think. Having issues myself (usually 'attachment' ones) I think it's best if I leave the room now, rather than making an embarrasing scene of throwing myself around anyone's ankles.
Goodnight everyone.

AH HA!

I am the cause of all of the BN hassles just to get you to leave BN Snowy, so that I can finally have a shot at the BN number one blogger position!

Oh damn I wasn't supposed to tell you that until you had well and truly left. I guess my sinister plan has been foiled :-(

I think I will be commuting between the two blogs. Maybe???? www.chezzag.wordpress.com

Yes I had thought about the PM situation, no more private and intimate chats anymore Snowy. What will we do?

Such is life,

But I'm not concerned. If BN doesn't improve, it'll take you 10 years to get to the top.

Hmmm, will have to have a think about the PM problem. Maybe a new hotmail or yahoo address.

Posted by jd
yes PM seems to be one of few features missing at WP. I like the my comments section though. Vox.com has PM. It seems to be rare on other blogging sites.

BN has been strange the last couple of days some things happen quickly and then it seems to stall. Has anyone else noticed that or is it just me?

11/4/2007 - Yes, I've noticed that also, Jim

Varying speeds, that is. I'll have a look at vox.com as well.

Later...

I had a look around vox.com and like it better than wordpress. It has the facility to create a group, so we could create a whitepage group, all join it, and still have the whitepage feel. As you say, Jim, it has the facility for PM's as well. I feel it is a bit less intimidating than wordpress. And it let me create "Snowy" as my username!

Anyway, others might like to check it out, and see what they think.

Later still:

I set up a Whitepage group that anyone can join once they become a member of vox.com. Here it is:

http://whitepage.groups.vox.com/

and here is my blog address. http://snowy938.vox.com/

Firstly I'd like to say - thanks for the updates - they are very much appreciated.
Submitting report from “Testing Business Analyst/Consultant”…(hey..if you get to wear “Crossword Consultant” title, then I can have one too lol):

Have had a peek around vox.com..
Its looking good. User groups and messaging a HUGE plus!
Seems to be user-friendly…at first glance.
So far, some minor glitches tho, that no doubt will be worked out, later on:
• If having chosen template with one column down right hand side, and viewing via Internet Explorer, the links (i.e. column) appears at bottom of last entry/page, rather than as side right column.
• If viewing via Firefox then all displays well, albeit a lot smaller! Personally I prefer Internet Explorer, but no doubt a way around this.
• When registering, it requires email address. Via settings, this can be selected as “private/only me” display settings. YET… when looking at one’s blog, it STILL remains optional to ‘send msg or an email’.. and this email chosen to register is readily available.
• If chosing to change UserID login/Email address to another ‘alias’ as such, and save the settings… well it doesn’t actually save! Returning to this admin site constantly it returns to the initial email addie used.
• Therefore I cancelled the blog for the moment, and knowing this, may register in future only using an alias email addie.
• Resolution problems may be evident for some downloads here.
But again, the User groups and messaging, and general user-friendliness, overall, would give this site a thumbs up.
For further information, see Ref Journal 39 Dee’s Jotted Notes And Thoughts Vol 5, Pgs206-267. Thankyou. Big smiles Dee

I'll see if I can get rid of the email option. A definite no-no so far as I'm concerned.

Later:

No matter what I did, the email option remained on my blog but when I checked jd's and worker's blogs, the email option wasn't available. I suspect it is only available on our own blog, Dee.

..thats just plain dumb! (of them, not you Snowy lol). Why would they have an option to 'email' me... on one's own blog, if you've set the privacy settings, which would then make this viewable only to oneself? Is that a 'last resort' option, emailing onself, when one's really really bored?! Hang on...it may be a good idea afterall!

So, the email problem on vox seems to be sorted.

I noticed on wordpress that the email address appeared on comment notifications, so that was a black mark against it for me.

If you can't send a message when not logged on, then you are seeing what other people see when they visit your blog site. Which means, you may not be able to access a 'hidden' email account, but nor could you send that person (the blog you are visiting) a message?? (Yep.. that was a question.... lol).
Snowy – Just an update re Vox blog email issues – I think its because I didn’t get a chance to open the confirmation email that Vox blog sent me regarding changing one’s email addies. I have problems with my hotmail (alias) account on a regular occurrence, which is why I hesitate to use that one – but must if I must. Perhaps clicking on that link via email sent from Vox, the email addie would have changed & saved correctly.
As for numbers, yep... Im after reducing maintenance, chaos in my life... not increasing it.. lol. Don't think two blogs are the way to go for me.
(... psst...JD... 'sad' is when you talk to yourself within your own crossword answers on your own blog! LMAO)

14/4/2007 - I know what you're saying, Dee

Which is quite an achievement.... ;o)

The way I see it is that if you are not logged on, you can't send a message or email to the blogger you are visiting. If you are logged on, you can send a message, but not an email if the blogger has made the email facility unavailable. If he/she has enabled emails, then you could send an email.

At this stage, I'm leaning towards moving to vox anyway, as there are some nice features there, but will finally decide in a couple of weeks.

Too true, Sam
But how do you know he's not lying when he says it, Sam?
Yep.
Well, it should

Common sense prevails at last. Can't wait to hear the bleating of the No crowd. Yes, I can. It's painful to listen to such ignorance from supposedly informed people.
I'd stay anonymous after that one, too.
Sigh.....
I can't believe that, Ambrose...

Heh, heh, heh...
Try having a referendum on water recycling then, John.
I just wish you weren't right so often, Ambrose
Just one word in response to that. Yuk!!!!!!
I agree, Al. Mine are very well hidden....even from me.
You would bring that up, Ambrose...
Wish you'd been around to tell the No troglodytes that in our referendum.
I did resist, but finally weakened.

And sadly, that's the truth.
So why are you looking at me when you say that, Al?
Why, Al, why?
Well I do regret you never told me this years ago, Kate.
Oh, Ambrose, I wish you weren't such a cynic. And right, most times..
