Day by Day

No man is an island, entire of itself. Every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. John Donne.

28/3/2007 - For Cat and Jim

Cat posted a shot of this same fence on her blog while I was in N.Z. She thinks hers was taken by her grandfather 36 years ago. The house is in a little place called "Kingston", which is at the other end of Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown. I managed to also capture a bit of N.Z. sunlight. :o)

This is the "Kingston Flyer". We were lucky enough to catch it just before it returned to Kingston. I knew I had to take it for Jim. The train driver very considerately also spelt "Ozzi" in the smoke for him.

Did he really? Or are you just pulling my leg?! Either way I CAN see O Z Z I in the smoke!

28/3/2007 - Yes, I can see it too.

Do you really think I'd pull your leg, Gabby?

Looks like it's had a paint job since my shot and a bit of signage..

29/3/2007 - great shot Snowy

Posted by jd
in the early days of steam shots of new engines had to be made with the rods down, (don't ask me why I don't know) but you did it! Well done. Thanks Snowy.

Great fence too, if only you opened the gate by rolling one of the wheels out of the way it would be perfect.

That fence goes for quite a distance on the left as well, Cat. I wouldn't like the job of painting it. I notice a couple of trees at the back are gone now, too.

29/3/2007 - Rods

Posted by snowy
Thanks Plonka and Jim. I must confess I didn't know what rods were, let alone that they had to be down. Definitely beginners luck there.

the rods are the red pieces joining the driving wheels together, they pass the tractive motion from the cylinders to the driving wheels.

I don't think anyone worries too much about it these days but it used to be a big thing.

Yes, I did figure it out. Nice to know I got it right, anyway, albeit by a fluke.

So, there you are Kell and Raven.
Only when desperate...
And that's the truth
Must remember that one next time Mrs Snowy asks what I'm doing.
And he'll be skint by the time they've finished.
And a well paid one, at that.
I can see why he stayed anonymous. Hmm, maybe it wasn't a "he"...
Dreams
That's not how little liar Johnny does it.
I got tagged............twice
Still thinking about that one....
Like this one, perhaps?
Yes, you stopped worrying, Ron. We started...
He obviously wasn't a conservative.
Oh, I'm not, Mahatma. I'm not..
Sounds like good advice to me.
Too true, Sam
But how do you know he's not lying when he says it, Sam?
Yep.
Well, it should
So, what are you waiting for?
And that's no lie, Sam.
So true, Muhammad.
I must confess I do love my ham and bacon...
And Amen to that, Sam.
I can relate to that.
Like President of the U.S., perhaps?
Heh, heh, heh
Me too.
True, Johann
Why, indeed. Sigh...
What!!! And strike all our politicians dumb?
Like killing more people and killing planet Earth. He's right, you know.
Are they the ones called "Existentialist"?
We're getting into the deep stuff now...
Hmmm...
Well said, Henry.
Something to think about.
He'd have been a real success in politics.
I'll have to take your word for it, Al.
So you forgot them too, Sam.
You've been watching "Funniest Home Videos" haven't you, Will.
Well stop poking your tongue out at it, Al. Just in case...
Hmmm. Think I'll stay quiet on this one...
I suppose it is, Charlie. I guess I'd better start watching question time again.
Things haven't changed, Sam
Previous post on Howard's "support" for water recycling AFTER the referendum..
That explains it, then.
Can't argue with that.
Another one for the No troglodytes to think about.
I'll try to follow your advice, Sam.
You're stuffed either way...
Makes sense to me, Jack
I read today that he poked his tongue out because he didn't like having his photo taken on his birthday.
Was wondering about my insomnia...
Common sense prevails at last. Can't wait to hear the bleating of the No crowd. Yes, I can. It's painful to listen to such ignorance from supposedly informed people.
I'd stay anonymous after that one, too.
Sigh.....
I can't believe that, Ambrose...
OK, OK, I'll cut the grass. Sheeesh...
Try telling the fundies that, Carl
And nothing's changed, George, nothing's changed.
He looks as though he's not very happy with God.
So, you have that problem, too?
Well, you learn something new, every day.
Heh, heh, heh...
Try having a referendum on water recycling then, John.
I just wish you weren't right so often, Ambrose
Just one word in response to that. Yuk!!!!!!
I agree, Al. Mine are very well hidden....even from me.
You would bring that up, Ambrose...
Wish you'd been around to tell the No troglodytes that in our referendum.
I did resist, but finally weakened.
I'm with you, Jean..
More's the pity, Sam.
My thoughts exactly, Audrey...
How obliging of him...
Never thought of you before as an artist, Al. But you're right. You are.
And he said that pre Dubya...
Sigh......
We still haven't got far.
Right on again, Ambrose
Thankfully
That's good to know
Something to think about...
Thanks Sam, you might have just saved my life.
Makes sense to me, Henry.
By God, he's right!
Just wondering if you are an ancestor of Homer's, Ben?
I just wish I could even see the target after the genius has pointed it out to me.
You got a Nobel Prize for figuring that out, Al?
Same the world over it seems.
Well, you'd know, Ambrose...
Or anonymous comment.
He got it right again
That it is, Carl.
He remained a bachelor, I believe.
You know, that makes a lot of sense.
The incumbent being a very good example
And sadly, that's the truth.
So why are you looking at me when you say that, Al?
Why, Al, why?
Well I do regret you never told me this years ago, Kate.
Oh, Ambrose, I wish you weren't such a cynic. And right, most times..
I like it, Carl. I do wonder about the world you're in now.
I agree with the second part, Al.
Virus warning
OK, OK, besides THAT..
The secret of a happy marriage
I agree, Mel.
Just so long as it's a two way street, Kate.
To the fools who are posting spam, assuming you are capable of reading.
Wow, that big, huh! And good bye to another spam. Heh, heh, heh...
I really love the deep and meaningful stuff...
Sound like a bunch of wusses to me...
I don't know that I'm any more stupid now than I was before I found Whitepage, Albert.
Only 101 years? Not long enough... Take note, blognow spammers.
Don't think I'd have made a very noble savage...
Not what I want to hear at all, Sam...
Now he tells me...
What goes round...
I can relate to that
Pass
One more *&%^&%(% spammer pushed off the bottom of the list. I'm following, you see...
The inward significance of this is to try to push the *&$^&*%^^ spam off the page.
Well, that makes me feel much better.
I haven't seen him around on blognow. He must know me, though.
He's right, you know. *blush*
Good one, Albert, but no need to look so sad about it...
Which does make you wonder if God is having a laugh at us.
And Whitepage
Think I'll stick with the reverse cycle air conditioner, Henry.
The solar myth
Only if they make them think, JM. Otherwise it's just noise, more's the pity.
You've been talking to little Johnny, haven't you, Elbert.
Wish it governed Oz.
So when are they going to start making films for old people and drunks?
Hmmm, must have said it on a day his carbuncles were giving him hell. I bet Mrs Marx did too.
I like it, Henry.
Me, I go to bed. Guess that makes me an apatheticist. Or oldist. Whatever...
That's deep, Homer.
Well, when you put it that way, Kate...
No comment, Clint. I'm not stupid
He obviously followed politics.
But of course, Eddie.
Good one, Sam
And Amen to that.
I like that one, Mahatma
Ok, I forgive you, Dubya.... Damn!!! Sorry, Mahatma. I must be weak.
I'll have to take your word for it, Audrey.
I'm intrigued. Nicole Kidman missed the cut?
Never thought of that, George
Won't stop them, Albert, more's the pity.
Pass
Nothing's changed, John.
She is right, you know. Wish she'd told me fifty years ago...
He never found it, did he.
Or woman, Elbert. We're not sexist here...
Glad I'm not a spider.
Nice one, Eleanor
O.K., you made your point, Dave...
And that's how he discovered that space and time are inter-related. I wonder if he shared his Nobel prize with the beetle.
So, who feels like a star?
Um, I don't know, Bart. Maybe you won't need it when you get your wings...
I'll go along with that, Audrey.
Make that ALL politicians, Will.
So, who got out of bed on the wrong side, Ambrose?
And that's the truth!
A day in the life of Snowy
And that's why the meek shall inherit the earth, Ambrose.
Can't argue with that, Ambrose
And thereby hangs a tale...
Really, Ambrose...
Good one, Sam.
Another deep one. Sorry, no image of Anonymous to be found. I think I'd want to stay anonymous for that one, too.
Now that's deep, Groucho. I'll have to think some more about that...
Fundies take note...
I got tagged by Deena
So, when it's all said and done, we're just a bit of debris...
You really are a cynic, Ambrose............and mostly right.
That'll be the day...
Wise words, indeed.
OK, I'm converted...
I just received this message. I won't be dignifying it with a reply.
Looking out my kitchen window
I can't believe this. The law really is an ass...
I know what you mean, Sam. I have that problem after a couple of reds...
Quite so, Yogi. You're not a friend of Dubya's by any chance?
Hmmm.
I guess he didn't want to be caught short on the way home.
My turn to have a rant.
Update on Spammers
I'm O.K., you're O.K.
So that explains my lack of dancing skills. I only had a sister.
Yes, but they didn't have Whitepage in your day, John.
So true, Al.
And three makes you a quivering wreck...
So, will they now have to ask if the applicant is a cat?
Now, now, Ambrose. That is most ungallant of you.
Aw, come on, Abe. It's not that bad. Now if you were talking about Dubya...
Sorry Chezza and Rinny. I reposted it and lost the comments. Bloody old dickhead. Who can't even cook a good stew...
Good advice, Henry
Update on Mrs Snowy.
So true, Johann
Lost on some I could name, Mahatma. Like Dubya and his lapdog, little Johnny.
Like seizing Iraq's oil, perhaps?
I have to agree. That's my age, and the last thing I'd want to do is bring up kids. Not that I didn't enjoy ours when we were young..
You'll wonder how you ever got through life without knowing this
Thanks blognow support!!! Much appreciated.
#@%&$*$ Spammers!!!!!
I wonder what it was...
Riverbend's take on Saddam's execution. Quite a bit different to the media and politicians.
Happy New Year, Whitepagers!!!! Start the year with a smile with these videos I posted during theyear.
Like New Year Resolutions, perhaps?
Mrs Snowy is sick
My first blog. I've been thinking about it lately. Nothing's changed.
Please read this woman's blog. She lives in Baghdad. Compare her version of life there with Howard's sanitised crap. All done in our name. How does he sleep at night?
So it has. I guess that's why it was resisted so ferociously.
So is 600,000 according to some...
I can believe that
Like "Blessed are the cracked, as they let in the light?"
Pity there's no photo...
Well, I hope so, Al, I hope so....
Your point being that he's certainly in grave danger of doing himself a very serious injury, Clint?
So I wonder what a plant ever did to him...
I must be a BIG success then...
So true, Alf.
To all those fellow white pagers who are feeling lonely on this day, be aware that you are not alone. Our thoughts are with you. Please take some comfort from the beautiful words of Max Ehrmann's "Desiderata".
And Amen to that, Albert.
So when did you live in Oz, Gus?
Best quote ever. So why don't I take notice of it more often?
One of our daylily seedlings.
Quite so, Ambrose
Just thinking
Didn't stop you from smoking though, Sigmund...
I always thought he'd say something deep and meaningful one day. Still waiting...
I said that last time I had a hangover, too...
Top quote, Abe.
Bless her...
Just for a couple of weeks.
