How to eat Ice cream a solo exhibtion from the 20 September - 21 October 2007 Opening: 6-8pm Thursday 20 September Urban Cow Gallery Upstairs, 11 Frome Road, Adelaide .........How to eat Ice cream is an exhibition of new illustrations introducing a cast of little people and their pets. How to eat Ice cream presents a cast of illustrated characters such as Katie and Pookie who first appeared in my exhibitions: Look No Hands and Family Holiday in 2005, and Chasing Sea Gulls and Teddy has a Bath in 2006. New characters have since leapt onto the canvas for this exhibition including Brian the storyteller, Belinda who loves doing her hair and Emily who hates being called Jessica's little sister. And for the first time How to eat Ice cream also unleashes animal characters: Tigerpants the cat, Trev the guinea pig, Hop the rabbit along with a silly gaggle of chickens! The exhibition includes oils on canvas, and watercolour on canvas and paper. This exhibition is assisted by the South Australian Government through the South Australian Youth Arts Board.

'The Surf Life savers have helicopters to check you don't swim straight after lunch.' - Brian. This digital collage is for a group exhibition 'Reeling In The Years' which celebrates the year of the surf life saver. 3rd August - 23rd September 07 at the Bay Discovery Centre, Glenelg Town Hall, Moseley Square. Brian is a curly haired boy who loves to have an audience and tell tall stories, He is very convincing sometimes he believes himself. Like the time he told his friend his uncle owned a marble factory or the funny one about eating his Gran's sugarines.

Amy gives Tigerpants a pat on the back and a scratch between the ears. Tigerpants is incessantly happy and slightly forgetful. He lives with Amy & Belinda, their parents, Trevor the guinea pig, Hop the rabbit and lots of other animals. You may have noticed Amy cut her own hair. This paintings is one of a series I am getting ready for an exhibition in September at Urban Cow Studio's, Frome St, Adelaide. I used crayon to mask Tigerpant's white stripes. I am often asked if I have a cat character and now I do. I'll have to see how he gets along with Pookie the dog.

Daddy Dinosaur walks across an 'Emu' crossing everyday on the way to work in the city. He likes his job because he gets to wearing a tie. He is saving up to go on another tropical holiday with his family. He loves tropical weather, lazing in a hamoc, and meeting new friends.

I have made a little gift tag that goes on the tale of my dinosaur toys. It's not just a little card it has a cute story in it about a boy and his two favourite toys going on a holiday. Working across disciplines is essential in my art. My characters are portrayed best when I combining text, pictures and here soft toy.

Image: 'Dinosaurs in Pyjama's' and 'Off to work Dinosaur' - he's the one in the Loud tie. A couple of weekends ago I ran a toy making workshop at the South Australian Museum during palaeontology week. The kids (and parents) had fun turning dinosaur inside out and stuffing them. I have been making some more complicated dinosaur toys with textured spots for Urban Cow Studios and Gallery M. One side is denim with a variety of fluffy spots, a bit like those texture books.

Oil paint on canvas. These are a work in progress, I am finding oilpainting a challenging medium. I have been experimenting with Oil paint in preparation for an exhibition later in the year. Although I love watercolour because I can show movement and tell a story I am drawn to oil because I can portray a more contemplative side of my characters. I want to capture how toddlers sometimes just sit and watch, the way they silently observe.

This is a new style of digital colouring I am trying out. I was happy with the soft and fluffy airbrush method but this is bolder and sharper. I like transparent layers and the shapes are inspired by cut paper. I have been doing lots of drawing from observation latterly. While I was travelling I stalked rabbits and kangaroos with my sketch book in hand. Over Christmas I painted lots of portraits in my cartoon style. Drawing children's portraits was great practice capturing movement and posture.

I made this image while traveling around Australia. We were staying on the grounds of a retired army base now Bible College in NSW. I found a table of old books for sale in this hall that used to be the picture theatre. I love 1950s children's book illustrations, the murky flat colour cut outs contrasted with sketches. This is my interpretation of the 1950s style. I now have all my card designs up online www.blognow.com.au/cards/ (it's in my links section)
