China will do anything to win
I just watched this shocking video at The Opposite End of China. On February 18, the Chinese women's football team won the match against South Korea 3-2, but it suffered terrible damage to its reputation through the unsportsmanlike behaviour. It reminds me of the Trevor Chappell underarm incident of the 1970s. A Xinhua report (which mentions nothing about the end of the game) can be found here.

| I've stumbled onto your blog and I do like what you've written. I'm going to be an exchange student in China for a year and based on what I've read here and in other blogs, china seems like a pretty depressing, oppressive place. How do you like living there, despite it all? |

China
I think China is a really interesting place and I definitely recommend that you come as an exchange student. I think as a society, China does have a lot of pressure - a huge population is competing for a better life, wages are low and buying a house is expensive. I think after living here for a while, I have begun to feel these pressures. However, I do enjoy living here, you can certainly see something interesting everyday.

| As a kiwi I love your reference to the under arm incident.at least we can have a laugh. totally disgusted at the sportsmanship in this case. In regard to the other comments in the thread, China is a great place to live if you can ignore the shit. |
