The sexual fantasy of angry youths (China’s Machete’s 100th blog post)
Last year I published a post entitled Are Japanese women fruit for Chinese men? At that time, I had been perusing several military-related Chinese blogs, finding that a lot of the comments made lewd statements regarding Japanese women. Last weekend, my wife pointed out that an article in the Nanfang Zhoumo also touched on the subject of sexual fantasies involving Japanese women. The article by Wang Binbin examines the phenomenon of fenqing (angry youths), which is a term that now describes nationalistic Chinese netizens. Since the article explains very well why some Chinese netizens fantasise over Japanese women, I’ve tried to translate it for this post. (Thanks to my lovely wife for helping with the translation, especially with the rude words.)
The sexual fantasy of angry youths

The words fenqing or fennu qingnian originally meant opposition to suppression and the mainstream and were used to describe pioneering thoughts and actions. I originally had a good feeling about these words. However, today’s fenqing have moved so faraway from the original meaning of the word that the two are now incompatible. An essay on the internet said the following: ‘Fenqing has already entered the internet vocabulary of the Mainland – it is used to describe the Mainland’s radical Chinese nationalists.’ In addition, the main characteristic of fenqing is their opposition and hatred of Japan.
Once online, you’ll quickly be confronted with fenqing. I once discovered the following fenqing poem: ‘One billion soldiers we have, but we are yet to take revenge. 100,000 fierce brigades I lead, immediately taking the sword to Tokyo.’ This is probably the most polite and civilised fenqing words that I have found online.
Among the anti-Japanese feelings of the fenqing, the most notable is their sexual interest in Japanese women. It is the sexual fantasy contained in their nationalistic spirit. Many fenqing cannot forget about Japanese women. I once bumped into a group of fenqing online and recorded some of their ‘great’ words: ‘Boycott Japanese goods, except for Japanese women’; ‘On the day I overturn Japan, I will fuck their women one by one’; ‘When will we go to Japan and play with Japanese women?’; ‘There will be a day when all the Japanese women take turns sucking me off’; ‘When all of China’s dogs and pigs go to Japan to breed with Japanese girls, their offspring will still be better than those fucking Japanese men’. There are other words that I am too ashamed to write here.
It is probably wrong to say that sexual inhibition is the only reason why Japanese women are the object of fenqing’s sexual fantasies. In the mind of a radical nationalist, a woman’s body is placed alongside sea and air as something that belongs to a country’s sovereignty. Occupying or destroying a woman’s body is another way of defeating the enemy and a way of carrying forward the national spirit. It is the most hateful way of evening up the scores and is the easiest way of announcing and carrying out danger. This definition shows that ‘immediately taking the sword to Tokyo’ and ‘when will we go to Japan and play with Japanese women’ is derived from the same psychological state.
Once you understand this principle, it is easy to see why the nationalistic spirit of fenqing and their sexual fantasies are difficult to separate. This principle can also produce a new understanding of the sexual atrocities committed by Japanese soldiers in China. The many crimes that the Japanese Army committed on Chinese women during the invasion of China makes people bristle with anger. In the past, these actions were explained as the venting of animal desire, however, this explanation is not comprehensive enough. In the eyes of the invading Japanese Army, Chinese women were a part of Chinese sovereignty, while the women of Nanjing were part of the Chinese capital. The anger directed towards Chinese women was not only motivated by animal desire, but it was also caused by Japanese nationalism and ‘love’ for the Japanese empire. This principle allows you to understand why fenqing are so angry when Japanese men go whoring in China – they see it as a loss of sovereignty. 'If this can be tolerated, what can?'
I do not want to analyse fenqing too much, but I would like to say the following: Seeing women as part of a country’s sovereignty is barbaric and an insult to all women, including our own mother, sister, wife and daughter. |

Male or female fengqing
| Presumably a fenqing can be either male or female. Would a female fenging also want to fuck Japanese women one by one? Or would she prefer to suck off Japanese men one by one? |

| Obviously fenqing are against Japan, angry about China's previous humiliation at the hands of Japan, etc. etc. etc., but your analysis overlooks a major reason for their hostility towards Japanese women. Probably 95% of all pornography available in China (and it is available, and young chinese netizens are most capable of getting it) is of Japanese origin. It's explicit; it's abundant. It instills a belief that Japanese women are easy or even sluts. The fenqing's sexless lives cause them to both fantasize and (because of their nationalism) demonize Japanese women. |

sad occurrence
| Your post about fenqing phenomena caused me to actully read more about this rarely touched upon sensitive subject.......nationalism is always justified when it pushes a nation forward...however the extremist ideas of fenqing seem to indicate jingoism and even a different kind of "racism"....However in the context of modern world i think japan and china have a lot to gain by forgetting these silly differences......Japanese inflicted terrible suffering on chinese and koreans during world war 2 they have paid the price...... the war loss and atomic bombing were the divine retribution for japan's racist behaviour during world war 2.... |

Very interesting post.
I have a feeling that if the Chinese internet was somewhat more transparent, then most of this stuff wouldn't happen.
I used to work with some guys who said they hated all Japanese people. One day I saw a Japanese friend and I pointed and said "There's a Japanese person, why not say something to their face if you feel so strongly about it."
Needless to say, most kids in that situation wouldn't dare.
And they didn't either. |

| A lot of Chinese people don't even dare to say 'hello' to the face of a foreigner, which I always find very annoying. There seems to be a relunctance to interact with people from different countries. |
