• 7/11/2006 - Carrier Rack Givi

I fitted a Carrier rack and Top case - a Givi.

It is very good. I  read a lot about different racks and top cases, saddle bags etc. There were some positive and negatives for the Givi.

Someone mentioned it carries 10kg and having that on top of the bike was "unbalancing". Well I guess the author never carried a pillion. Consider a 230kg bike,with a 80kg rider - is a 10kg Top case going to make much difference? Well it doesn't. Would I leave it on if I planned to hit the race track? Absolutely not.

• 1/11/2006 - Tyres and rust

Dunlop 220 Sportsmax were the fitted tyres when bought. The rear ran flat at 9.500km which I am told isn't bad, considering I use the bike mostly for commuting.

I swapped the rear for a Dunlop 221 Sportsmax. Immediately felt more comfortable. Seems to 'roll' easier in cornering. Holds well, in wet and dry. But now at 15,000km (do the math and see that is 5,500km on new tyre) and it is showing the wear marker. Anyway I will advise when it runs flat.

Biggest problem so far is rust. The top of the front forks are showing bad rust spotting. Polishes off, and shop says it is 'normal'. But I pplan to tell Honda that their factory needs a shake up. Noticed the same rust on various models, including the CBR600 and the Blackbird.

• 25/9/2006 - Aussie in Japan rides CB1300S

Hi all - seems like a good place to start. Own a 2005 Honda CB1300S. ABS brakes, EFI, 1300cc engine, half cowl, red and white.

Got over the hurdle of the "Big Bike" license in Japan and finally got it last year. Lovely machine, surprisingy agile.

As I get used to this system, shall feed more info - happy to hear from anyone else riding anywhere.

Cheers
