WhitePage.com.au Case Update - 4:10 PM, 11/3/2006

WhitePage.com.au Case Update.

We Are Winning!

Dear WhitePagers,

First and foremost the team at AAA Marketing World would like to thank all WhitePage.com.au supporters.

As per WIPO order on Wednesday 1st of November WhitePage.com.au has been transferred to Telstra, which has later that day shut down our blog hosting service.

The number of your letters sent to Telstra Corporation Limited and media representatives has resulted in WhitePage.com.au being restored on our servers on Thursday 2nd of November.

While this is an amazing achievement for the WhitePage community the battle is NOT over yet.

Telstra has not been in contact with us and has not confirmed in any form its position nor did it agree to the continued operation of the blog hosting service under WhitePage.com.au domain name.

We suspect that due to the HUGE AMOUNT OF PUBLIC OUTRAGE Telstra have restored Whitepage.com.au!

As it presently stands Telstra STILL HAVE THE POWER to shut the service down again at any time.

AAA Marketing World need confirmation from Telstra in writing that they will NOT SHUT WHITEPAGE DOWN!

We have seen that public outrage gets results, so we further need your help to save our online community and show Telstra that we can’t be shut down!

We now seek contact with Telstra in order to agree on a resolution that will ensure both continued operation of WhitePage service and protection of White Pages trade mark.

HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN DO

Your help is needed now more then ever. Please continue to spread the word on this injustice and please continue to contact media and Telstra representatives.

Demand Telstra to confirm continued operation of WhitePage.com.au as free blog hosting service.

We believe Telstra’s executive still do not understand the importance of WhitePage.com.au to survival of our blogging community. Registration and setup of blognow.com.au was done to allow a form access to your personal blog data – it doesn’t transfer all references links from other web sites and thousands of personal bookmarks already pointing to your blogs hosted under WhitePage.com.au!

Together we can all beat Telstra and save our community! Write to Telstra today:

What is so great about winning? - 9:08 AM, 11/5/2006

As long as it is functioning the way it is. whitepage or blognow as the domain name - is there a hell of a difference?

To a note to the admin of this site. Refer back to whitepages.com.au with a link. Then everyone is happy. I hope.

Guys open your eyes! - 9:51 AM, 11/5/2006

Taka, to your previous comment what is the difference - with Telstra will be no site at all it will be redirected to whitepages.com.au that's the difference - new ownership means site shut down hence no more free blogging!!!!!!! We need to stop this, I already emailed to all these guys with the massive complaint!

Thanks for your attention!

Main Problems - 1:24 PM, 11/5/2006

Some of the reasons why it's so bad to loose whitepage.com.au:

1. Links from other sites to whitepage.com.au blogs, will be lost. This is a major issue as readers will end up going to a "not found" page.

2. All the bookmarks will have the same error.

3. A lot of people know that WhitePage.com.au is an Australian blogging system (through word of mouth and we've also been featured in newspapers) and come here to start their blog. If they can't find us we loose another member of the community and other potentially interesting aussie blog.

Regards,

Mike

there is a point to winning this! - 4:47 PM, 11/5/2006

I am amazed at peoples attitude sometime...perhaps I shouldn't be. The point to winning this? The fact that whitepage.com was 'SOLD" to AAA in good faith as a domain name (they paid for it!!!) Telstra didn't think to "buy" the name themselves, they waited then stepped in and whined and got their bigwig lawyers to deal with it. It's the "we want and we shall take" attitude of the big corps bullying the little companies around that stinks. Not even offering compensation to those that rightfully paid for the name.
I say enough!!! Let them pay for what they get like the rest of us smucks. It's not often you get something for free but whether it be whitepage.com or blognow.com they give it freely and with their effort, time and support to back it all up. Be thankfull and appreciative people and help stop the bullies in this country. Have we lost our voices as well as our balls? You go team... fight on!!

So, is that it ....? - 2:50 PM, 11/11/2006

Is everything back as it was? Or do we continue living in the uncertainty and may have change bookmarks and find our blogs drifting around the internet, untraceable and unlinkable? Are we with blognow or whitepage? How is any tracking or pinging service going to find us?
On reflection, it wasn't all that bright to operate as WhitePage when White Pages was already such a well-known name.

What's in a Name? - 8:45 AM, 11/14/2006

When my telephone company – that is, the one I rent my services from – decided to have WhitePage closed down because it resembled their White Pages, I have to confess to feeling confused. I had not been confused before. I saw the words looked different. I felt I knew the difference between blogs and phone numbers. I understood singular and plural forms; to ‘s’ or not to ‘s’ had not occurred to me as a problem, and Google seemed to have it sorted. Still, as a writer I have regularly faced the abyss of the white page; but I suppose I can now forgo that now, as Telstra has filled all the white pages with names, addresses and numbers. This is helpful, as facing that blank white page was quite an ordeal.

I recall a family called Harrod in New Zealand, who quite reasonably called their little general store by that name. They lost a court case over their use of the name; the London department store evidently felt threatened by their existence. As well they might, I suppose, considering that New Zealand’s tiny population produces the All Blacks who regularly thrash the British Lions, despite the fact that the latter hail from the home of rugby and a vastly greater population.

I then thought how fortunate I was that I could not start a family firm selling hamburgers, although as a McDonald I’ve sometimes wondered whether the Campbells had not been quite thorough enough, or had inadvertently slaughtered the wrong branch of the family…

More earnestly, I’ve wondered about funerals – I turn out a good eulogy. So there was a time when, together with a couple of friends, I considered setting up a friendly funeral firm… But then I came to Melbourne and discovered the funeral directors that go by my name. I decided they won’t bury me, either in court or in a cemetery.

I started to reflect on other such cases, and then I thought, am I coming adrift from some other part of humanity here? Is there something I’m not getting? And yes, I’m a problem – I haven’t died, I’ve not been to Harrods, and I’ve never entered a McDonalds restaurant (I even suspect I once lost a potential girl-friend, who asked me to go through a drive-in to get some coffee… I stopped across the road and suggested she could walk). So, you can see I’m a man of principle – now, there’s just the issue of this other one. While it might be being solved for me, I still feel disgruntled. I am contemplating possibilities for gruntling.

Telstra Sux - 1:48 PM, 11/14/2006

Like I don't exactly trust the "we are victims" spiel of the white page blog management, I tend to see them as people developing a marketing stratagy over a long period of time and while they do claim that "white page" is as distinct from "white pageS" complete with totally different company logo's and web page designs - which as so different that one could not possibly see an association between Telstra's "White Pages" and "White Page Blogs", I just generaly hate the arseholes in Telstra (Period)

I feel that they ought to just have left well enough alone and gotten on with the business of lying, cheating and schemeing and showing the world just how full of shit they and their political bum chums really are.

So I wrote these arse clowns this email:

Re the White Page Blog site.

Hi I have a blog on the white page blog site and I am pretty pissed off about your scumbag antics to take the domain name from the company who started it.

I knew that the initial Telstra float of the Tee Off shares was a conjob.... I saw the clowns in 3 piece suits jerking off the mums and dads of Australia, while atritifically upping the share income from charging high prices while downsizing the work force needed to maintain the infra structure.

I have long railed against tesltras actions of charging grossly excessive fees for everything, from my USE OZ account costing me $16 PCM for 80Meg down laod per day, every day for a whole month, when compared to Pig Bond costing $345 for the same download volume.

I am also quite pissed off with the prepaid home plan costing me $25 per hour to call a friend in a town 80K away (50c) a minute, while it only costs me anywhere from 1/2 to 3 cents a minute to call the USA, which is about 160 times the distance.

I absolutely hate you, I hate this company and everything it does and what it stands for.

Taking over the White Page blog site was just pure arseholes act.

And it causes me a whole heap of inconvenince to update all the links and material in my blog.

Pretty soon I will not have any kind of any need for Telstra.

As soon as I can, I am shutting down my last remaining accounts with Telstra and going to other service providers.

So from me to you, as an irate consumer who has been ripped off, lied too, stood over, and been fucked over by the people in this company, with just completely shit service just sooooo many times...

You can stick your stolen domain name up your arse.

Regards

(Me)
