21/8/2006 - Russian Year

This year is the Russian Year in China. Putin and Hu Jintao inaugurated this event at the Great People's Hall this March. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any big event so far. However, I just found some "events" about the Russian Year.
I watch a news program every morning. Some days ago, the program showed some footage of a restaurant in Russia, which has a special selling-point - people are arranged to sit inside cells while waitresses and waiters dress themselves up as policewomen and policemen. The program also broadcast a dangerous running competition held in Moscow, Russia in early July- women should wear at-least-9-cm stilettos while running. This morning, I watched the program again and the hostess read the following two pieces of news - in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, there is a very creative restaurant - it looks like a jail from inside and people are located in different cells, having meals; in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, a running competition took place last week, where women had to wear 7-cm stilettos!

I don't know whether the hostess herself remembered what she has broadcast recently. But the two events are exactly the same copies of last week's news. The only difference is the venues.
I am not sure if the it's just a coincident that both Russian and Chinese people think of the same things; if it's because of the Russian Year in China; or if the Jiangsu people purely copied them since they are too lazy to be creative and have to copy others.

22/8/2006 - Interesting observation

Thanks for the interesting observation. I have already decided that Russian and Chinese women are the best in the world for wearing high heels. I've seen a Russian student climb the many stairs of Mutianyu in high heels and a short skirt. And what can't Chinese women do in high heels? They can ride bikes, catch crowded buses and shop for hours.

To say the media is uncreative is an understatement. I was surprised that they used different footage. I thought that they would report on the Nanjing story but still use the footage of Russian women wearing stilletos.

It seems that Russia and China enjoy all things tacky. A Russian aircraft carrier in Shenzhen has been turned into an amusement park, complete with dancing girls wearing very short army uniforms. Now that's entertainment.
