When Oz pig meets Bj fish

1/8/2006 - is Ice Age Meltdown a bad movie?

This is a piece of comment on Zhangbohan's latest entry about Ice Age. I wanted to post it underneath his entry but it turns out to be very long; so I have made it an entry on my blog.

I am very critical and impartial. It there are mistakes, I will admit them. If they are my mistakes, I will correct them and learn from them. There should be a plot-making mistake (though I am not sure about it) - when the first ice block fell off the cliff or flowed into the bowl, there was a huge dragon-like monster frozen in it. And the monster even opened its eyes when the mammoth turned away. But it never appeared in the movie again. Was it one of the two evil fish? I have no idea. And thank Zhangbohan for his lesson about the animals.

But I have to say that I don't agree with him - it's a nice movie! It has presented friendship, love, encouragement and understanding. It shows the power of moving the earth and the significance of having a life/ a friend/ a lover. Today's world is polluted spiritually and environmentally.

Many people may think I'm being emotional or overacting; however, that is truly what I am thinking. I like Hollywood romances and Disney cartoons very much because I feel refined at watching them and my beliefs are reinforced by them - love is more important than anything else and it does have the power to change us and the world better and better. Some say Hollywood romances are cliched and stupid. But have they thought of them in a positive or spiritual way? I bet they only think of them in a commercial way.

There are some personal statistics - I cried at least three times when I was watching Ice Age Meltdown. I have watched Spiderman 2 for at least five times (once in German and once in French) and I am still moved by the scene that Peter Parker saved the whole train of people and the passengers protected him against the evil guy. I have watched A Walk to Remember for many times and every time I watch it I cry. All these are natural responses of me. And I treasure these tears and feelings. Imagine how a person will become if they don't feel touched by love? I will definitely hate myself if I have no tears for love. And I may commit suicide.

1/8/2006 - Hmmm....

I've read your post three times and I'm not sure how to respond. It's fair enough that you like the emotions showcased in Ice Age: The Meltdown. In my case, I don't like to have these gushy emotions forced upon me. Perhaps I am looking at movies in a commercial way, but isn't that a must since so many movies are purely commercial? The plot was very predictable - man and woman (in this case male mammoth and female mammoth) argue, at first detesting each other but eventually giving in to love. The problem is, life is not that predictable...And is it a historical fact that mammoths and sloths can swim?
