From Albury we went to our Nations Capital- Canberra. One word to describe Canberra- COLD. It was freezing with the temperature dropping to -4 degrees at night. The ground and car was frosted over in the morning.

We first went to the War Memorial which was very interesting and proffesional. They had all sorts of items from both World War I and II, some of the highlights being:

  • A japanese submarine
  • A Natzi fighter
  • An Allies bomber
  • Tanks
  • Many big and small guns
  • A boat full of bullet holes used in the landing at Gallipoli.

We then went to Questicon which is basicly a better and more hands-on version of Science Works. If you ever visit Canberra we highly suggest you come here. The main highlight was the 6.7metre freefall in which you hung from a bar and fell onto a verticle slide. They also had all sorts of hands-on activites grouped into sections, eg. Sports, music, earth, etc.

The National Zoo and Aquarium was another great place. We booked to go on a 'Zoo Venture' tour where you go around in a small group and handfeed:

  • Tigers
  • Lions
  • Tigons (Cross breed of tiger and lion)
  • Cougars
  • Bears
  • Otters
  • Monkeys
  • Giraffes
  • and much more

We also went to the museum and a couple of other places. We didn't see the AIS, Parliment House, the Mint, etc. as we had already seen these on a previous trip.
