The New England HwyPosted on 27/7/2006 at 6:58 PM - 0 Comments - Post Comment - LinkWe have had a number of stops on the New England Hwy.
We parked one night at Burning Mountain, a mountain on top of an underground coal seam which has spontaniously combusted, and has been burning for over 1000 years. There was a hole in the rock SingletonPosted on 27/7/2006 at 6:57 PM - 0 Comments - Post Comment - LinkSingleton was our next stop. We came hear mainly to see our family and receive our mail.
We did, however, drive to Stockton Beach (about 1 hour from Singleton, on the coast). He we drove on HUGE sand dunes that streched for 11km along the coast and 1km inland. We also used the 'Stickboard' to slide down the hills. There were quadbikes, 4WD's and motor bikes everywhere.
With that finished...
...On to the New England Hwy!!!
SydneyPosted on 27/7/2006 at 6:43 PM - 0 Comments - Post Comment - LinkAbout a week was spent in Sydney; looking around, seeing friends, and doing work. We saw all the sights of the city (Opera House, Bridge, etc), had a ride around the city in the monorail and went up the Sydney Tower- the veiw was amazing. We had a jetboat ride around Sydney Harbour which was fast, fun and WET!!!
NowraPosted on 8/7/2006 at 8:05 PM - 1 Comments - Post Comment - LinkThis destination was really intended for business however we were suprised to find that there was quite alot to do in Nowra and the surrounding area.
We were able to take off our coats up here, it was much warmer. There are alot of nice beaches along the coast with white sand and clear water. We spent quite a bit off time on the sand and exploring the rocks. The water was a bit to cold to swim, but it looked nice and the waves were big.
Futhur inland it was alot different. Green paddocks, forests, waterfalls and rivers. We drove through Kangeroo Valley which was full of great views. We stopped at a river and explored it. We also visited the Fitzroy Falls which were awsome and very high off the ground.
Amidst all this there were some very nice towns which we wondered through. Nowra was very relaxing.
CanberraPosted on 8/7/2006 at 7:51 PM - 0 Comments - Post Comment - LinkFrom Albury we went to our Nations Capital- Canberra. One word to describe Canberra- COLD. It was freezing with the temperature dropping to -4 degrees at night. The ground and car was frosted over in the morning.
We first went to the War Memorial which was very interesting and proffesional. They had all sorts of items from both World War I and II, some of the highlights being:
We then went to Questicon which is basicly a better and more hands-on version of Science Works. If you ever visit Canberra we highly suggest you come here. The main highlight was the 6.7metre freefall in which you hung from a bar and fell onto a verticle slide. They also had all sorts of hands-on activites grouped into sections, eg. Sports, music, earth, etc.
The National Zoo and Aquarium was another great place. We booked to go on a 'Zoo Venture' tour where you go around in a small group and handfeed:
We also went to the museum and a couple of other places. We didn't see the AIS, Parliment House, the Mint, etc. as we had already seen these on a previous trip.
AlburyPosted on 8/7/2006 at 7:46 PM - 0 Comments - Post Comment - LinkOur first stop was Albury. We didn't spend any time in Victoria as we want to head up north (where it's warm) as soon as possible. We stopped in Albury for Ian's work and to settle down for exams. The exams and work used up most of our time so we really just looked around the town. With that taken care of we continued north. We're Away!Posted on 8/7/2006 at 7:18 PM - 1 Comments - Post Comment - LinkWe're away!
