19/6/2007 - Battle of the Brains - They Won Again!

Posted in Personal
I've just come back from watching the Battle of the Brains semi-final and Harley's team won again!  They have been invited back for the grand final next Tuesday night (26th June) and will be competing against Mirrabooka Primary and North Balga Primary.

They led all the way and picked up a few questions from the beat the buzzer rounds as well.  Since the final is on a Tuesday night the whole family can go to watch.  This will be great for Shauni and Kimberley (my two daughters) as they also competed in Battle of the Brains.  Shauni in 2004 where her team also made it to the final, and Kimberley in 2006.

7/6/2007 - Battle Of The Brains - They Won!

Posted in Personal

On Tuesday, Harley and two other classmates competed in "Battle of the Brains" at the local high school.    They won their first heat and will be going back again on 19th June for the semi-final.  They even had a perfect score in round 3.  Each team is asked a set of 10 questions each round.  Harley's team answered all 10 questions correctly - a total of 200 points for that round.

Kimberley competed in the competition last year (see posts from June 2006).  Kimberley's team made it to the semi-final and came second but not enough to get through to the final.

My eldest daughter Shauni also competed in this in 2004, although she was attending a different primary school than Kimberley and Harley.  Shauni's team made it through to the final and came third.

Harley is hoping his team can make it to the final as well.  They did really well in the heat and I think they have a good chance of getting through.  It all depends on the types of questions they are asked!

14/8/2006 - Update on Battle of the Brains

Posted in Personal

Kimberley and her team competed in the Semi-Final of Battle of the Brains on 28th June (I know, I'm late posting this update!) and came 2nd.  It was a close competition and very tough questions in some rounds.  It wasn't a high enough score to get to the Final but they did well to go as far as they did.

It was the first time her school competed so the future students now have something to aim to beat - and the teachers now know how the competition runs and may be able to give the future teams some help with strategies and types of questions to expect.

14/6/2006 - They Won!

Posted in Personal

My daughter Kimberley competed in the Battle of the Brains competition this morning and her team won! It was a close competition and all 3 schools took the lead at different parts of the competition but Yokine managed to work together to come through in the last 2 rounds.

They will now be competing in the second Semi-Final in 2 weeks time (28th June) against Boyare Primary and Westminster Primary.  Boyare have placed second in the finals of this competition for the past 3 years.  Let's hope Yokine can beat them!

11/6/2006 - My Rotten Week

Posted in Personal

Well this week has been hectic!  We had a rental inspection on Wednesday so Monday and Tuesday was spent cleaning and preparing for the inspection.  Carpets desperately needed cleaning!  To save money we did it ourselves, although the Fibromyalgia didn't really appreciate it!   We survived the inspection and actually got them to replace the laundry taps at long last.  Now maybe our water bill will be lower next time!

We went shopping after the inspection and then on the way home the car overheated.  Once we got home we discovered that the top hose needed replacing.  Easy enough to do and not too expensive.  Then today we find that the same thing needs replacing on our other car, as well as the alternator!!  This my husband is not able to do himself so looks like I have to find an autoelectrician who can do it at a reasonable cost tomorrow.

At least something good happened this week.  Our daughter Kimberley has been chosen as part of the team to compete in the "Battle of the Brains" competition run at Mirrabooka Senior High School.  For those in Australia, it's based on the tv show "It's Academic".  Our eldest daughter Shauni represented her school 2 years ago and made it through to the grand final.  Kimberley is representing a different school this year, a school that has never taken part before so it will be interesting to see how far they go in the competition.

Here is a picture of Socks - taken today.   She's about 13 weeks now.

My friend and I took the kittens (she has one from the same litter) to the vets last week for their second vaccinations.  We had been told that both kittens were female but as it turned out, my friend's kitten is actually a male!  We couldn't stop laughing when we found out.  She now has 3 male ginger cats!

22/5/2006 - Welcome to Aussieangel2's Blog

Posted in Personal

Welcome.

This is my first blog so bear with me while I learn the ropes!

I'm Sarah and I live in Perth, Western Australia with my husband and 4 children (aged 13, 12, 10 and 3).

I've had a homepage online for quite a few years now but it desperately needs updating at the moment - getting there slowly.  My children also have their own homepage I created a few years ago.  Now they are older they are able to have more input into what is added to their site.

You can view my webpage at http://www.geocities.com/aussieangel2  and my children's page at http://www.geocities.com/fontanakids

I recently opened an Ebay store selling ebooks and other items.  To view my store go to:

http://stores.ebay.com.au/Aussieangels-Ebooks

I also have an Ebook Membership Site at http://www.ausebooks.net  There is a one-time membership fee of $19.95 (USD) and then all downloads are free for the life of your membership.  No annual fees.  The site has been pre-loaded with 100 ebooks and I am adding more every couple of weeks.
