19/6/2007 - Battle of the Brains - They Won Again!

Posted in Personal
I've just come back from watching the Battle of the Brains semi-final and Harley's team won again!  They have been invited back for the grand final next Tuesday night (26th June) and will be competing against Mirrabooka Primary and North Balga Primary.

They led all the way and picked up a few questions from the beat the buzzer rounds as well.  Since the final is on a Tuesday night the whole family can go to watch.  This will be great for Shauni and Kimberley (my two daughters) as they also competed in Battle of the Brains.  Shauni in 2004 where her team also made it to the final, and Kimberley in 2006.

19/6/2007 - Weigh-in 13/6/07

I forgot to add last week's weigh-in results again!  I lost 300g which was great considering I gained the previous week.  I'm still on limited excercise as well due to my knee.  Hopefully I can increase that next week as it's been nearly six weeks since the injury.  I will have to build up slowly using the treadmill and/or exercise bike at home plus try to do one session of hydrotherapy each week for the next few weeks.

7/6/2007 - Battle Of The Brains - They Won!

Posted in Personal

On Tuesday, Harley and two other classmates competed in "Battle of the Brains" at the local high school.    They won their first heat and will be going back again on 19th June for the semi-final.  They even had a perfect score in round 3.  Each team is asked a set of 10 questions each round.  Harley's team answered all 10 questions correctly - a total of 200 points for that round.

Kimberley competed in the competition last year (see posts from June 2006).  Kimberley's team made it to the semi-final and came second but not enough to get through to the final.

My eldest daughter Shauni also competed in this in 2004, although she was attending a different primary school than Kimberley and Harley.  Shauni's team made it through to the final and came third.

Harley is hoping his team can make it to the final as well.  They did really well in the heat and I think they have a good chance of getting through.  It all depends on the types of questions they are asked!

7/6/2007 - This week's weigh-in

Wednesday's weigh-in did not go as well as I had hoped!  I had gained 200g.  This was probably from eating pasta the night before - more than I would normally eat as I didn't have steamed vegetables or salad with it like I do most of the time.

Next week should be better though as I'm able to move about more - the knee is getting better.  I did an hour of hydrotherapy this afternoon and hope to do at least one session, maybe two each week for the next 3-4 weeks.  Even though it is light exercise it will still help with the weight loss.  I can't get back on the treadmill for at least another 2 weeks though!

Current weight:  118.8kg

31/5/2007 - Another Good Loss!

I weighed-in again yesterday and the loss more than made up for last week's gain.  I had lost 2.2kg and finally gone under 120kg!  Still with no exercise due to my knee.  It's going to take another 3-6 weeks for the ligament to heal completely but I'm hoping I can do some short, slow sessions on the treadmill next week.  Even if it's only 10 minutes a day it will help.  The physiotherapist will let me know when I can.

31/5/2007 - Weigh-in: 23rd May 2007

I forgot to update my blog with last week's weigh-in.  It wasn't good but that was my own fault - had a craving for chocolate that week and gave in to it!  At last week's weigh-in (23rd May) I had gained 800g - putting me back at 120.8kg.  I still wasn't able to exercise due to me knee.  It is damage to the medial ligament but there is also some fissuring of the cartalidge inside the knee which the doctor said may have contributed to the medial ligament injury.

After having gained weight I decided to get back on track with the points and not give in to the chocolate craving - at least not the way I did that week!

16/5/2007 - Feeling better after today's Weigh-in!

I feel much better today after the weigh-in knowing that I still managed to lose weight even though I've been on bed rest since Saturday night.

On Saturday night, at my friend's house, I pulled the Medial Ligament in my left knee.  I have no idea how I did it but the doctor said I must have twisted the knee as I took a couple of steps.  All I know is I felt a pull or something in my knee and the next second I was on the floor in agony.  My husband had to come over and take me to the after-hours GP where they checked to make sure nothing was broken and then bandaged it up and told me to rest and keep the leg elevated as much as possible.

I spent most of Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in bed and hobbled around using a crutch!  I thought there was no way I could lose weight, especially after eating chips when I came home that night but I managed to lose 0.7kg!

I still won't be able to use the treadmill and exercise bike for the next few days at least so I'll have to be extra careful with my food during that time.

Didn't manage to get below 120kg like I'd hoped for this week but was only 100g short - will do it next week!

11/5/2007 - This Week's Weigh-in - Another loss!

I weighed-in again at Weight Watchers on Wednesday and had lost another 900grams!  Another good loss making a total of 5.8kg in 4 weeks which has amazed me.  I've never lost that much in so little time.  I also received my 5kg Bookmark!   I did do a little more exercise this week - 2 x 30 minute sessions on the treadmill and did a shorter time on Tuesday but due to fatigue (from the fibromyalgia) I had to stop.

I've been really busy yesterday and today so didn't get back on the treadmill, although I would have done more than 30 minutes of walking with everything I had to do over the two days.  Tomorrow I'll be getting back to it and hopefully can do some every day from now on.

I have been feeling better most mornings since starting Weight Watchers and changing my diet to include more fruit and vegetables, and less fat.  I've still had the occasional takeaway food but always the low-fat options and within my daily points allowance.

My aim for next week is to go under 120kg - a loss of 800gms will make it.  Not too difficult a goal to reach based on previous weeks.

Start Weight:  126.5kg
Current Weight:  120.7kg

3/5/2007 - Weigh-In - 2nd May 2007

I weighed in again at Weight Watchers yesterday morning.  I lost 800gms this week.  Not a lot but not too bad considering I ate a lot of the wrong foods on Saturday at my nephew's Engagement party.  Plus I was not able to exercise at all on Monday and Wednesday due to a problem with my hip - must remember to take my anti-inflammatory each day and it might avoid that problem again!

I did have some good news in the past week - my sister had her first child last Thursday.  A girl they've called "Angelina Rose".  Angelina was born early on 26th April 2007, weighing 6lb 1oz.  We went to visit on Saturday and she is beautiful.  Not sure who she looks like yet but it's too early to tell.

I'm back on track with my weight loss since yesterday's weigh-in.  I've exercised both days on the treadmill - not a lot but anything is still good.  I'm working up to exercising longer each time. My speed increased this morning.  Hopefully next week's weigh-in will provide better results.  I should at least make the 5kg weight-loss mark next week  - was only 100gms off that goal yesterday.
