Fingerprint Recovery from Bullets - Posted at 10:50 AM on Jan. 18, 2010 by ausetute
Less than 1% of fingerprints can currently be recovered from bullets. Recovery methods include the application of a powder which can destroy the evidence.

By studying the chemical and physical interactions occurring between fingerprint sweat and the metal it is deposited on, Chemists can now visualise fingerprints on metals even after the print itself has been removed. At higher temperatures and humidity, fingerprints on metal can be developed into a permanent feature. This technique should improve the percentage of fingerprints recovered from metallic surfaces such as bullets.
