Country Madness

I must warn you that this story is absolutely rubbish. Why put it on the site you ask? Well l did it because l want you to see what happens when a writer has a bad day. Feel free to say it totally stinks....IT DOES!!!!

“That’s just great!” Kristen cried, kicking the dead vehicle with her brand spanking new shoes. “Stupid car! Stupid stupid stupid!” Kristen lifted her foot once again and brought it down hard on the door of the car. A satisfying sound resounded from the vehicle and Kristen smiled. It soon turned into a frown however when she soon resented that kick as pain shot up her leg as if it was a bullet that had gone off when someone pulled the trigger. She hopped around for awhile, cursing. For goodness sake! She had to go work! Now she was stuck on the stupid countryside with the stupid endless fields and the stupid fact that there was no phone booth or house in sight.
“That’s it.” She sighed. “I blew it. My first day of my new job and l blew it.”
For a moment, she kept cursing and moaning but then she calmed down. Calling everything stupid wasn’t going to lead her anywhere. She needed to think straight to get out of the situation she was in.
Slowly, she forced her body into a sitting position on the yellow grass and thought. If she couldn’t find a solution, she would die from starvation, not to mention stress.
A few minutes passed….nothing…..nothing….. Then…
“I’ve got it!” she shouted triumphantly. “I’ve still got two hours until work starts so if l can walk fast enough, l could probably get to that phone booth l saw ages ago.” Kristen smiled. It was an obvious decision – one that she could have made up ages ago but she was cross then. Quickly, she grabbed her briefcase and walked slowly away from the car, glancing back over her shoulder every few seconds, wanting to remember the last time she would ever see the ancient rusty Honda. Gradually though, the car soon became a thumbnail model of what the vehicle really looked like and that thumbnail image was the last she ever saw of her car.
Kristen’s heavy footsteps echoed throughout the desolate land as she treaded on, whistling to give herself company. Heavy was the burden, the briefcase. It weighed and slowed her down but she kept on going, taking quick steps. She was determined to reach help. Nothing would stop her.
The grass swayed gently in the wind as she walked, scratching her legs. She felt something bite one of them, an insect perhaps. At first, Kristen ignored it. “I must keep on going no matter what, I must.” She mumbled. Again, the grass tickled her legs, teasing her. I can do this she thought. Breathe in and out, in and out.
She walked a few more metres, clenching her teeth. Everyone had said that Kristen had a dangerously short temper like a bomb that was on the verge of explosion. To them, it wasn’t a wonder why she always got kicked out of jobs within a month. She couldn’t help it. It was the way god made her and the rest of the world would have to deal with it. She was however, on most occasions, optimistic and that was the only thing that kept her from wallowing in the dirt amongst the city alleyways, that and her friends.
Once more the bright yellow grass came within contact of her long skinny legs. It was terribly sharp and itchy. When it had touched her the last time, the fuse had lit on the bomb and the string grew ever shorter and now……..
“I can’t do this!” Kristen wailed, her usual optimism gone. It had fled a while back and now that she realised it had disappeared, it leaved her feeling unusually bare and weak. Out of aggravation, she thrust her briefcase away and screamed. All her emotions; anger, weariness and frustration clung onto the sound as she continued screaming. The scream pierced the still silence and even startled a couple of birds that were roosting on a lone fragile looking tree to fly overhead her, one cheeky bird leaving a present on her shirt as it went.
Kristen stared sadly at the little white blob that now rested on her favourite marron shirt. In that white blob, she saw herself in it, the lone misfit in a sea of people, which was what the marron colouring represented. She was different from other people – as a child, she was an orphan with her anger issues. Bullied and mistreated, she had retreated into herself. That was when she had found optimism yet even with it, she still had trouble with the world.
Kristen shook her head, smiling. People thought her strange; they saw her as a Violent, angry yet optimistic person. There are two types of people in the world to them: Normal people and the misfits, the buggies. In other words, the insane people yet if they had walked a mile in her shoes, they would find that she was not a buggy after all but someone who just needed help. If they had walked a mile in her shoes, they would find that after having been badly treated since childhood, the optimistic thing really wasn’t that daunting as having been through so many bad experiences, you could only feel happy that you’re still alive and that you are alive, alive to enjoy the world as much as possible as life is short.
Kristen laughed and reached into her shirt pocket to withdraw a soft silk handkerchief. She wiped the dropping off her shirt. It left a stain there but that didn’t matter. She needed to get to a phone booth if she still wanted to do her job. She stuffed the poor handkerchief back into her shirt pocket, trying to ignore the squelchy feeling of the substance that was now smudged on the silk.

With new hope flaring inside her chest like a bonfire, Kristen searched for her briefcase which she had surprisingly thrown a long way. She finally saw it on the other side of a barb wired fence that she had been strolling beside. Kristen pondered for a while. How on Earth was she going to get on the other side without hurting herself?
An idea soon appeared in her head. A dangerous and stupid idea but it was the only one. She backed a few metres away from the fence…..and ran.
At school, she had always been the best runner, which was probably courtesy from the fact that she had to run away from the school bullies every morning and afternoon back then. From her calculations, she would just make it the fence if she jumped while she reached the right speed.
She was about the make a jump but it never came as when something weird happened. She had stopped running! It was as if she was suspended in air, unable to move. What the freaky thing was that the truth was that she was suspended in air! She was in a jumping position, her legs ready to leap but she wasn’t even on the ground! She suddenly felt light headed and faint. There was an eerie feeling in the air and it made Kristen feel cold. She had thought she was the only person in the endless yellow fields she was in but she was wrong. Very wrong.
Without warning, she seized breathing. Her arms ached to clutch at her throat but some unknown force prevented her from doing so. Her heart was pumping slower now, she would die any second. Her eyes were the only thing that could move and they widened, the last action they did before she died.
Or did she?

Kristen gasped, sucking in deep breaths of the luscious and wonderful air that surrounded her. She found that she was sitting up on her bed, sweat trickling down the side of her head like blood. Gradually, her deep breaths became normal, and she found that she could think probably. What had just happened? By the look of things, she was in her own dull bedroom. Everything looked normal – her clothes were stretched across the floor, making it appear like a multicoloured carpet. All her other possessions were scattered on the floor, pens, papers, everything a mess. Yes, this was how she had left it.
Kristen was puzzled. One moment she was in the countryside hopelessly lost and now she was back in her own room, safe. The only explanation was that the whole thing, that getting stuck in the middle of nowhere was just a dream.
Yes that was it. She thought Just a dream.
She grinned. What a ridiculous dream she had! It was only just then did she realise something. If that was just a dream and she just woke up that meant….oh no…..she was going to get late for her new job! She swiftly grabbed her briefcase and charged out of the bedroom and the unit and hopped into her red Honda. There was no time for breakfast; she would just have to do without it. She started the car and revved up the engine. She grinned. Today was going to be a great day, she felt it. What she didn’t notice was that she had her clothes on when she had got out of bed, the same one with the stain.

The end – or is it?

“Ookanag fwishka juwandey” How is the experimentation going? Alien came swiftly out through the mouth of a beast as was the way of their language. The brute had a warthog like face with a long snout ending with slits for noses. Sharp lethal fangs protruded from its jaw and glowed in the dim light. Thick raven hair sprouted all over the beasts face, almost making it invisible under all of it. What you could see clearly though was the lage blood red eyes that would make even the most bravest person in the world yelp and run away out of pure fear.
“kiuhjar yuhdiet gjient sulteng” Came a deep rumble for reply from an identical beast. The Human is acting as if nothing had ever happened.
The first Alien laughed, a horrible sound between a croak, a gargle and the sound of nails scraping a blackboard. “jsopbnaht yuhdiet.” Foolish human.  The Alien inclined its massive face towards the white room where inside, a smiling Kristen was driving an invisible car. She had a strange object on her head that had dozens of wires strung to it. This, unfortunately, she didn’t notice.
The second Alien nodded “Hithso thulung psyvab sigbyth.” The virtual headpiece is working perfectly. He stared hungrily at the tall woman. “Lhsiah dhyibe jesbiv?” Do you want to eat her afterwards?”
The other alien smiled a strange and grotesque sight. “gasong beinge.” Why not?
Both aliens roared into laughter as their spacecraft whizzed passed stars in space faster than the speed of light, waiting to report to their homeland.
