But dude, you work for Fox News AND you're Bill O'Reilly. I'm really struggling to conceive of a more hypocritical statement. His comments were in response to a Dateline segment which broadcast new (nastier) photos from Abu Ghraib. According to Bill, publishing the photos endangers everyone on the entire planet to more terrorist attacks, but torturing prisoners and invading Iraq does not. These things are part of the 'war on terror', and if you're against those things then you love the terrorists. Many, including the ACLU, feel that prisoner torture is a systematic problem in the US military, and higher officials should be held accountable. This has not yet happened (and probably never will).
The 'to publish or not to publish' issue regarding these photos is similar (sorta) to the Mohammad cartoons debacle. Apparently, we should limit our freedom of speech just in case some violent lunatics are offended and might start rioting, firebombing buildings and killing people. Just to be clear, the getting offended part is cool, but the violence and killing people part is uncool. |
