What can you say. Martin Denny with help from buddies Les Baxter and Si Zentner performs an Exotica Suite. A classic of the genre and is Denny's attempt at a 'serious' exotica album. Without the percussive whimsy of his small combo exotica albums this is still a great piece of music. And 'ahem' my own stereo rip. The previous copy I had was mono so this was a welcome acquisition.
From liner notes:
At first it may seem unusual to contemplate an album featuring such widely divergent music men. "Martin Denny" has been for several years the prime exponent of the marvelous and mysterious realm of music known as "Exotica", while at the same time "Si Zentner" has gained the reputation for having the "Swingingest" big band. How did this album come about?
The answer is simple, because the music was composed especially for this exciting and very unusual sound combination by "Les Baxter" one of the foremost exponents of Exotic music and because all the compositions,Les Baxter's finest, were arranged especially by one of the best Big Band arrangers on today's music scene "Bob Florence"
As a result we have a suite containing musical elements in which each of the group's, sound & style complement the other perfectly, this is also the most "exciting music" you're likely to hear for a long time to come.
