20071231 - Welcome to Xtabays World

Well I've decided to start a mirror Xtabays World site here. Posting is a pain on this site as Firefox won't let me edit or draft new posts. I know that blognow doesn't like java scripts which can limit what you put on the site (eg blogroll) and it won't let me post videos anymore. I think I'll trial putting new posts on the blogger site and keep this site open for requests and comments. Also I can add a blogroll to the new site which should please the link junkies.
Let me know what you think.

Thanks to all the kind people who've posted links in answer to requests (quinlan deserves special praise!).

I'm always on the lookout for new interesting blogs and sites. If you think your blog or site has what it takes let me know and I'll put the link in the sidebar.

2007921 - Now at Exotic Moods the most subversive song ever!

Would you believe the second most subversive song ever? How about one that made Richard Nixon just slightly more paranoid than usual? Well go to Exotic Moods and find out how the sacred cows stampeded 60s America!

2007921 - Request mega post

Love those minah bird covers. Exotic Paradise.

Hmm East meets West.

Practically defines space age pop. Tartaglian Theorem.

Tak is definitely not tacky. Bamboo again.

2007919 - One year, over 600,00 visits and the 3 Suns

To celebrate nearly 12 months since I started this site as the successor to Planet X here is a great 3 Suns exotica video called Volcano. This was created by Mike but I've edited it a bit and converted it so its playable on this site. This song was only available as a 45 and never officially appeared on a 3 Suns album. As my first post was a video (Ed Wood) its appropriate I post another at this time.

Stop the press blognow is not letting me post videos. Also Firefox no longer comes up with an entry box for new entries so I have to use a new browser when I want to create a new share. Time for a return to Blogger?

Anyhow my friend Xotica has kindly uploaded the video to his new blog Exotic Moods so you can go there to view it.

2007916 - Bill Wolfgramme - Polynesian Music in View

Another great album cover. Not a bad album of polynesian music either. They certainly knew how to get your attention in the 70s. Bare view.

2007913 - Its a Dogs life

Isn't this a grand picture of a dog created by my friend Julie. The character of the dog and the artist shine through. Julie does art work on order and her web site is here for examples of her work. She lives in Western Australia but I'm sure she can do work for people in any area.

2007912 - Bens Big One

What an album! What a cover! This is a request and I think it was for the music as well. Feel free to adapt the cover as a desktop background if you want. I think Rato could do something quite interesting with it.

Oh yes heres the music.

200792 - Big Sunday Post!

One of the best exotica jungle albums this side of Hatari.

Those Clebanoff Strings sure are exciting.

Oriental percussion and harum girls? You came to the right place!

Mr & Mrs Herbert Janeiro of California this is for you. They were the original owners of this album according to the label in the top left corner of the cover scan. Little did they know that their record would be digitised and shared on the net, future innovations of which they would have been blissfully unaware.

This is a compilation I made up ages ago and it has been requested so here it is.

So there you have it. Have a good weekend!

2007825 - Gene Rains mega post

Tropics

Call of the Tropics

Lotus Land

Across the Sea

Gene Rains is often requested and why not as he's one of the very best exotica artists. Similar instrumental line up to Martin Denny and Arthur Lyman but he's unique because he came from a more classical background and is not so jazz influenced as the other two Tiki icons. Some of these albums have already been shared but this is my complete Rains collection. Low bit rate alert on one or two of these but its all I've got.

2007821 - Lew Davies - Two Pianos & 20 Voices

For those who wanted it here's my own rip of this Enoch Light produced album. I must say it came out very nicely indeed if i may say so.

2007820 - Billy May - Today

Here's Billy May's very 'now' sounding album from 1966 imaginatively called 'Today". I didn't have a cover scan so this is my appalling effort courtesy of my low budget graphics program. This is for Licorice Pizza who shared the Billy May album Pow! and remarked that he was looking for this album. Well here it is!

That expert in finding covers, litlgrey (I'm going to have to put him on the payroll) has supplied the original cover. can you guess which is which? Somebody pointed out that Billy looks a lot like Tony Soprano and I can see the likeness.

2007818 - Esquivel anyone?

Here's an Esquivel mega post hope there's something here for everybody.

1968

Other worlds

More worlds

Music from a Sparkling Planet

Esquivel's world renown earned through his RCA Victor albums coincided with a period when rock groups eclipsed orchestras as the popular standard-bearers of pop music. Consequently, Esquivel was the last great big band leader. Saxophonist/composer John Zorn called him "a genius arranger who created a beautiful pop mutation." Esquivel certainly deserves credit as the visionary whose musical fuel-injection propelled the pop orchestra into the 21st century.

Xtabay Speaks!

Xtabay welcomes you to a site where exotica, lounge and space age pop music rules. I like to post out of print albums but if anyone has a legitimate beef with any post I'll remove it immediately.Coming to you from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia. And remember music isn't everything but its way ahead of whatever's in second place. Requests are welcome and don't forget your comments are valued.
