IZZY FOREAL FILLING IN WITH HILLBILLY BLUES BANDITS
After the recent death of "Rollin' D", bassist with north coast (NSW) band the Hillbilly Blues Bandits, Izzy Foreal has been playing bass with the band to help them fulfil a series of commitments to promote their album 'One Ticket'. Band Leader Pete 'Scrubby' Pete Hurcombe says he'll decide about the long-term future of the band at the end of this series of shows, but in the meantime the 3-piece blues outfit is powering along with the addition of Izzy's trademark antics and peculiar approach to musicianship. Izzy has made it clear he'd be happy to fill in with the band as long as it takes to make them rich and famous.

IZZY FOREAL TRYING OUT A RESTORED ’KAY’ VINTAGE BASS
Category: Music

Izzy is presently trying out a 'Kay' hollow-bodied bass restored by Ian Willis at MONGREL GUITARS. The bass was probably made some time in the early 1960s, and Ian has skilfully brought it back from the dead and returned it to a finely-tuned instrument that Izzy is finding a pleasure to play. Izzy will be putting the Old Girl through her paces over the next couple of weeks , but if the initial weekend's trial is any indication , the Kay and Izzy may be sparring partners for some time to come. Thanks to Ian and Mongrel Guitars for their skill and patience – they have made it their mission to restore 'Kay' guitars and basses : Here's how to contact them –

IZZY FOREAL LIKED THE 'K' BASS SO MUCH HE'S BOUGHT IT !
Body: The heading tells it all, folks. I tested the restored 'K' bass out for a couple of weeks, and it feels so right I bought it from Mongrel Guitars who did the fine restoration work on it. Thanks again to Ian Willis for bringing the 'K' back from the dead - Check out their web site (they are on MySpace as well) and take a look at all the guitars and basses they're working on. You don't have to be near the Blue Mountains to do busines with them - I got my 'K' sent up to Bilambil.

MORE PASPALUM ALBUM UPDATE
Category: Music

UPDATE: Everything has virtually been recorded for the album, except for the new possibility I LIKE PINK, and now Izzy has been offered the use of some high-level mixing software, after mucking around with various cheapies and not really getting the results he wants. This means the mixing is now underway with a vengeance, so the album may actually see the light of day instead of just being something they announce at gigs as "forthcoming". An anonymous donor has also injected some finances into getting the final mix mastered professionally, so that gives the band access to possible inclusion on compilation CDs and competition entries such as the Tamworth songwriting awards, as well as the inevitable shot at radio airplay - all of which require mastered tracks in this day and age. We think we've birthed a beauty, so continue to stay tuned!

PASPALUM’S ALBUM UPDATE
Category: Music

Tracks recorded so far on Paspalum's album 'Sticky Grass Pudding' (not in order if eventual appearance on the CD): GREAT WHITE HOPE, HENRY LAWSON'S HAT, BARKING DOG BLUES, LONDON SONG, STICK IT IN YOUR PIPE, THE JOINT LOOKED LIKE A BOMB HIT IT, MAWSON, SMITH TOWN, THE LANE BELOW THE FLATS, ANOTHER BLOKE'S WIFE, STICKY GRASS PUDDING, LAUGHING SONG, WINTERMOON LOON. All the bed tracks are done, and most of the final lead vocals, as well as selected rhythm guitar and mandolin. Still lots of colouring (via special guests), solos, backing vocals, kazoos and mixing - but hey, the journey is the destination!

MORE ON PASPALUM'S ALBUM
The song ANOTHER BLOKE'S WIFE has been shelved for now (it will probably make the next album). Instead we will record a new song from scratch - titled I LIKE PINK / THE BOOFY BOY SONG, written by Izzy, it will feature our friend Scrubby on slide guitar, Jimmy Duke-Yonge on drums (he hadn't joined us when the other bed tracks were recorded) and of course the rest of Paspalum doing their selective things. We will attempt to record it 'live' in our Studio SpareRoom at Bilambil, to give it the bluesey mood it deserves, but that's only a theory at this stage. All the other tracks are just about ready for mixing, with some bits and pieces still to come from our friend Philly Berg on electric guitar, and Jess and The Boss on percussion, with maybe some flute from Lily White. We hope to get the mixing done by our friend Daz from Gunnadoo Bush Band (who also does the sound at the Wintermoon Festival, and we think he's a genius). Failing that, we will attempt the mix ourselves on Izzy's you-beaut Yamaha 24-track machine that we've recorded the whole thing on so far. Stay tuned!
