Courage to Change - To Seek Unknown Potential

"It takes great courage and inner strength to change from what is known and comfortable to something which is new and fresh. That which is unknown often contains our greatest potential. To seek our potential by risking change is the path of true greatness. Such action brings great favour and untold blessings."

10 Quick facts to share with friends and colleagues:

  1. It takes four times more land to support each Australian than the earth can provide.
  2. 60% of the earth's ecosystems that support life are being degraded or used unsustainably.
  3. Australians use 1 million litres of fresh water per person per year.
  4. Not since an asteroid hit the planet 65 million years ago have animal and plant species died out so fast.
  5. At the current rate of extinction, half of the species of plant and animal would be gone by the end of the 21st century.
  6. A quarter of the world's mammals face extinction within 30 years.
  7. In 2005, the global fishing fleet was 2.5 times larger than could be sustained by what the oceans produce.
  8. In 2000, Australia's 24 biggest power stations produced the equivalent of 40 million cars worth of climate polluting CO2.
  9. Tens of thousands of albatross are killed each year by long-line fishing (much of it illegal) around the world.
  10. The worst drought in Australia's history was man-made. In 2002, the temperature across Australia was 1.6°C higher than the long-term average which scientists attribute to human-induced climate change.

I've had a look at the site and I can't find the details of the studies that have come up with those facts. I've just read a whole lot of stuff that is saying that lots of the stuff we do is helping the environment recover. Which I think is an awesome thing. If all our efforts are paying off we should keep going!

That there are things that we can do to hault the destruction of the Earth.

I thought that if we killed off the human race that that would solve the problem but I have been advised that it isn't the way to go :-)

Many people are heading in the right direction and we just need more people. The whole purpose of the Futuremaker program is to join up and receive regular newsletters keeping us up to date on what we can do to help the situation.

We have to stay positive and motivated to keep getting the word out there that change can be made.
