The Great Template Experiment
I've
started a new blog so that I can show examples of how changes to the template affect the appearance of blog pages.
I'll also be using it to show 'how-to's' and maybe some more in-depth stuff. I'll see how it goes.
The first How-To will be how to put in a background image. Now, this first one will be a bit complicated because I'm using a template that is similar to
Chica's. It was
Chica who
asked the question first, and she sent me some nice pics from Tibet. So I better keep my end of the bargain and show her how to get the pic she wants into her background.

The new blog is
here.
The tutorial will go up soon.

Template Basics - do you want to know?
Hey again all
I had a comment from chica (titled geek-envy). She was asking about templates...well commenting about how difficult it is to try and work it all out. I agree. For the uninitiated, all that gobbledegook is mind - boggling

Soooo, I had a thought. Chica wants to know, and I guess there might be others who would like to know...what does it all mean and how can I customize *my* template?
I'll be happy to start writing some basic tutorials explaining in easy to understand terms what all the jargon and secret squirrel code means, what it does, how it works, and how to do some basic changes to your Blog pages by editing the template.
I'm not an expert, but I know my way around
HTML and
CSS etc, so hopefully I'll be able to help you understand it all a little more. I promise not to get all geeky and techo...I'll keep it real dudes

If you're interested, make a comment.

Template trivia - and some cool freeware
OK, it's no biggie, but I was playing with the template for my blog...
As you can see, there are some minor changes to the background and links and the titles for the Blog and entries. The interesting (to me) bit is that all of the colours, including the hover link colour, come from a photo of a sunset I took. Come to think of it, look at my post '
We get too many good sunsets out here'. The colours come from that photo.
I'll play some more with this and get a list of entries on one side, plus do some more experimenting. I mean, what good is a geek if they can't play til something breaks? Besides, I haven't played with HTML or
CSS or anything webbish for a while and need to refresh it all back into my head.
If anyone wants to play with a groovy colour picker (or color if you are Americanised as HTML is), have a look at this little app:
Visual Colour Picker...oh alright then, bloody hell,
Visual Color Picker. It's Freeware, it's geeky and it works. I won't run through all that it does, but to summarise, you can get the
RGB,
HTML,
VC,
Delphi,
VB equivalent codes for your chosen colour. You also get the code to put in your page (for you lazy or inexperienced page coders). Plus lots more. Check it out, it's pretty good.
