Marathon, 2002 "It's certainly a gem; a probable "underground" masterpiece."Dennis Schwartz
Psychological Drama - Amir Naderi's independent feature concludes the New York trilogy this gifted Iranian filmmaker began with "Manhattan by Numbers" (1992) and "A, B, C . . . Manhattan" (1997). His protagonist is Gretchen (Sara Paul), a young woman with a curious obsession: once each year, she goes on a personal marathon, in which she tries to complete as many crossword puzzles as possible during a 24-hour period while riding the underground trains. By performing this strange, private ritual (a tradition she has inherited from her mother) in the most public and chaotic of places, Gretchen seems to be waging her own private war against the meaningless din of urban existence. As absurd as her gesture may be, it is one way of imposing order on arbitrariness. Dave Kehr, The New York Times
*Mental note to add to my films-I-must-watch list.
Now..that I couldn't say Chez (having not seen the film). The review, (for obvious reasons) appealed to me, and, like JR says.. it also appears a film slightly less superficial than others - having deeper layers and meanings within. Interesting train of thought, though.... If someone asked you to name a film that you felt depicted 'who you are'?... well....(for me).. the naming of at least 20 different films and nothing under that would even be a worthy attempt! lol How about you?
P.S: Which 'trilogy'.. you mean the Godfather series?? a reference from other posts??)...and...
Answer: Never!... well....no more than I - is that a good answer or a bad answer? LMAO
Well I could be referring to "The Lord of the Rings" too.
No sorry I have confused you or I am confused. In the above review I thought it mentions that this movie is the final in this director's trilogy of similar themed movies. That was the trilogy I was referring to.
The P.S. - Well I think we will just say that the jury will always be out on that one :-P
Now I really better go to bed,
Good night Dee - I wish you sweet dreams.
Apologies Chez - you know I have "difficulty comprehending" some things..*wink* (insert ref to another comment here, smiles). Yes..yet another embarrassing 'lost the plot' moment - out in public for all to see (ah yes...its all coming out now...warts and all).
Tell me.. if one's brain becomes frazzled, does it ever unfrazzle itself? LMAO Night Chez!
xoxoxoxo Dee
have an interesting PPT file that I made oooh 6 months ago - entitled "Dee's brain".. lol... Obviously one of the reasons why Wordpress may appeal to me, though it may not be safe for public consumption, (safe for me and my privacy that is). Talking of blog sites, frazzled brains and other meanderings - Ive sent myself to my own self-imposed exile until I can finish composing a an entry over co-incidentally these 'topics'.
P.S. And yes.. I'll admit to always wanting more! lol
P.S.S. I LOVED your comment re "Chezza in Exile/and, At the safe house" on another's blog.. and other previous comments related to this. Thanks (once again) for the glorious laughs you give me. Huge smiles...dear friend. xox Dee
