Ok... I was 'tagged' again!!! The tag is five songs you would like played at your funeral.
Well, Im going to make a real botch-up of this tag that's for sure. There's certainly room for a little tongue-in-cheek and personal humour behind the possible selection... but knowing the first that I definitely would play at my funeral or my partner's.... I just couldnt myself get past emtions it brought up. Spent days on this Im afraid, and nup, again just couldn't lighten it up or throw that much needed insightful or humorous twist on it. I know this song will send some people running for the hills emitting uncontrollable groans, largely due to its soppiness and overexposure... but for me.. it is soooooo personal; the "loss" - now, last year, my life, my future and at the point where it ends. So...Im posting it. I must add...it IS very personal in more ways than I can even begin to express and I can't even listen to it once without falling apart into overflowing messy tears and hitting the bottle. There... all vulnerabilities revealed. Ahh to heck with it.
Do you know there are more than 22 pages of links and video clips for this song! I wouldn't have picked any of them...(all soppy and mostly crap in my opinion and if I was anyone else out there I wouldnt blame you for running for the hills). This vid clip and pictures however represents the closest I could find to how I feel, which is more about 'loss and the process of all kinds of grieving' than it is about death. Watch the images. Took me ages to find this one.
Feel free to tag yourself - if you're up to it.
(If you'd prefer a push, then I tag Kell, Chezza, Raven, Kees, and Aries).
That song will be played at many many funerals I'd say. You know I used to love that song - then bloody Jake Kovco ruined it for me. I got so sick of hearing about him and his wife and then they played it at his funeral and that was it. I spat it and can't listen to it any more!! Cat
Well, all I ask...(seeing as you have 'some' connection then to the song)...All I ask is for you to view the vid clip, Cat, with the sound OFF.
I know I can't listen to it.. whether it be over 3 glasses of wine at night OR 3 cups of coffee in the morning - I'm still reduced to a blubbering mess.
British singer James Blunt has topped yet another musical chart, with his song Goodbye My Lover voted the most requested tune at funerals and memorial services in the U.K.
The piano ballad is another slow track off his bestselling 2005 album Back to Bedlam, which also spawned the ubiquitous love song You're Beautiful.
Blunt's song was closely followed by pop singer Robbie Williams's song Angels, according to a survey released Monday by the Bereavement Register, a group that works to remove the names of the deceased from direct mailing databases.
The group said that 51 per cent of people have considered a specific song to be played at their funeral. Also, 79 per cent have discussed the choice of song with family or friends.
The poll surveyed 5,000 people and, rather than unearthing a slate of dirges or elegies, turned up a list of mostly contemporary picks.
"The top 20 really shows how far we have come in terms of saying goodbye," said group founder Mark Roy, according to Reuters.
"Everyone has a favourite song that means something very special to them, often connected to a particular time and place. When the song is played, this can be a very emotive reminder of that person," he said in a statement.
The top 10 most requested songs were:
1. Goodbye My Lover, James Blunt.
2. Angels, Robbie Williams
3. I've Had the Time of My Life, Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley
4. Wind Beneath My Wings, Bette Midler
5. Pie Jesu, Requiem
6. Candle in the Wind, Elton John
7. With or Without You, U2
8. Tears from Heaven, Eric Clapton
9. Every Breath You Take, The Police
10. Unchained Melody, Righteous Brothers
Frequently covered favourites, including the traditional song Danny Boy and Bob Dylan's Knocking on Heaven's Door, were among the top 20.
Other somewhat surprising entries on the list included the rollicking rock track I'll Sleep When I am Dead by Bon Jovi and Fame (I Want to Live Forever), the Oscar-winning theme to the 1980 movie and subsequent TV series Fame.
LOLOLOL Snowy...You're soooo right!
Well... that's the humour I was looking for (which you've soooo kindly provided). They WILL all be smiling about THAT fact... ha ha. Thx Dee
1. A book about a nonhistorical or unverifiable story handed down by tradition from earlier times and popularly accepted as historical. Covered in blood!
2. A person who is the center of books about legends: She became a legend in her own lifetime. Covered in blood!
3. A table on a map, chart, or the like, listing and explaining the symbols used. Once again covered in blood!
4. A sick and mentally tormented Chezza who believes the world revolves around her: She became a legend in her own mind. And yes of course covered in blood!
(I kinda get real pleasurable 'guilty' feel from it all. Little like having a sip from the flask at an AA meeting. Hmm... I best check the calender... not sure when my next EANNA meeting is scheduled... but right now.. Hey .. I dont FEEL like I got a problem.. What problem???)
(P.S. For those that don't remember.. EANNA that Chezza and I attend are for essayholoists with that uncontrollable "Essays are not notes"... problem!!)
Stuck in the 70's as I am, the whole James Blunt phenomenon has somehow happened without me noticing too much of it. I get the idea that I am the only person in the world who has never heard this song. It is very intense, emotional and poignant. But at the same time it is all of this to such an extent that I can imagine that this would be the type of song I couldn't listen to any loger after having heard it for a number of times. For now though, I stick to the three adjectives above without any critical note.
It's always interesting to read bloggers comments. I owned up to not having heard certain bands/music/songs on other's blogs too. Little incredulous we ask... but none-the-less interesting.
Overexposure often ruins a bloody good thing I think.
But for me, its currently slotted into its own category...an emotional 'trigger'.
Hoping to get more favourite URLs up and posted on this article. Wanna move on and get that 'party' atmosphere happening. Let's get it pumping!!!
