Yes I have finally been recruited into the ranks of the "Footy Mum". To be honest I didn't think this day would come, but son B is now playing Australian Rules Football. So we will be driving from country town to country town each Saturday along with all of the other footy parents out there.
Hubby is very proud, as B is only son to ever play footy for a team. Hubby and I spoilt him on Tuesday. We bought him a Collingwood shirt to train in ($100!!!!) and a new football. I told him that I would buy him a Collingwood - Magpies jersey (not realising how much they would be) to train in. But B said, "No I will get either a Melbourne Demons (Hubby's team) or a Collingwood jersey depending on how well each team plays on the weekend." Well the Dees got flogged and Collingwood won so that solved that issue.
I have to say for me it has been great to actually be able to go and see him train and play. Plus I also got to go to the jumper/numbers presentation night last week. This time last year due to my CFS/ME illness I wouldn't have had a chance.
This Saturday Hubby can't go to the game, so I am going to attempt to do something I haven't done in 7 years, I am going to drive the car to the game which will be 65kms away, watch the game and drive home. The longest distance I have driven the car since my illness became severe is the 7kms into town.
Of course I have photos, it was his first game last week after all. What was the score? Umm I have purposefully forgotten the scores.
