...only this time, there's somewhere to go. Click HERE to be redirected to the new site http://www.blognow.com.au/captainstraightman/. Not only will it have the long promised content real soon, but it also has a banner that doesn't make you feel drunk to look at it.
Gosh darn it to heck!

Here I was priding myself on the name of this blog and all the while forgetting that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Of COURSE there's already a blog called Aussiemandias. Why wouldn't there be? The existing one is written by some guy working on a research station in Mawson (Antarctica). I'm very glad I didn't get too far into this one before discovering that pertinent little fact.Just in case anyone's bumbled here and thought they might be interested in what's coming up, I'll make one more post to redirect to the new site when I set it up and decide what to call it. Any ideas? Phase two of the master plan is complete!

Well great. I must say I expected more of phase two of the master plan than the addition of a rather blurry looking masthead. Still, it 's nice to know that the linking system works. I'm hoping to do a little more footling around during the week to clear the way for Phase III of the Master Plan, which is actual content (which the more perspicacious of you may have noticed is demonstrably absent so far). And the wait will be worth it too! Really. If you happen to be a music nerd with a developing taste for obscure Australian vinyl of the 60s 70s and 80s, that is. I plan to create some little Hoadley's Showbags of music in 5 basic categories which are as follows: - 6 O'Clock Rock to GTK (50s to early '70s) - Sunbury Nation (the festival and beer barn titans) - Countdown Empire (the tight trouser era) - Basia and Beyond (alternative trends of the 80s and 90s) - Cak (humour/novelty/bizarre covers) I'm also going to be throwing on some links to places where you can get more (and probably less specious) info on the topics at hand and also some places you can buy, BUY, BUUUUY until you bleed in the interest of generating some income for those who sweated glitter and mud for our amusement over the years, 'cos a lot of 'em are still out there and a lot of them are doing it hard. For this reason, everything available will be from my own personal collection and is intended to give you a taste for the artist and hopefully encourage you to find more. I'll also be focussing on stuff that I'm pretty certain is out of print, or at least really difficult to come by. If that sounds like something you'd like, come back maybe next week and there might be something special for you. I'll also throw open the comments forum so you can correct my gaffes, tell me about other sites doing the same only better or just plain say howdy do. Move along, nothing to see here.

This site is under construction. The general idea is to showcase the brilliant, the inspiring, the idiosyncratic and sometimes plain old weird world of Australian popular music as represented in my own admittedly random collection, so come on back in a week or two and see how it's doing.
